The last line in this story is shocking. Did Oprah have a "safe house"?

A massive customized Water Tower condo belonging to Oprah Winfrey has been listed for $7.75 million.
The listing Monday by Baird Warner features four bedrooms, five full bathrooms and two half baths across 9,600 square feet.

Homeowner's Association fees for the duplex are $9,000 a month. Listing agent Pamela Sage of Baird & Warner could not be reached for comment.

Winfrey bought her first unit in Water Tower Place in 1985, when she purchased a 57th-floor unit for an undisclosed amount. Then, seven years later, she paid $1.0625 million for the unit directly below it. In 1993, she paid $1.5 million for an adjoining 56th-floor condo. She rounded out her purchases in 1994 when she paid $1 million for a final unit, also on the 56th floor.

Oprah owns very little other remaining real estate in the Chicago area. In July 2012, she sold her eight-room, 4,607-square-foot Streeterville co-op unit -- which she had never moved into -- for $2.75 million, close to $3 million less than the $5.6 million that she had paid for the co-op unit in 2006. And last year, she sold the vacant location of her flagship Oprah Store on the West Side for $875,000, just across the street from her Harpo Studios.

Her production company has hired a real estate firm to evaluate options for its West Side facility, which consists of a four-building campus on West Washington Boulevard where employees continue to produce content for her Oprah Winfrey Network. However, sources say she is considering selling some of that campus, refinancing the loans on the property or a sale and lease-back transaction.

Winfrey also owns a house in Elmwood Park that she purchased in 2001 for $298,000.

Does she need money? Why is selling all of this stuff at a loss?

That O network must be drowning her. I think network stars from the Big_3 go to Cable networks to disappear. Conan is another example.

I thought she was a multi billionaire. I imagine just renting out the places until the market recovers would have been a better idea. I'm sure the losses help on her taxes but I doubt it really matters to her.

I was going to title it: "OKC wants a walkthru!"...but I don't want any trouble.

Paying off Steadman's boy toys gets expensive?

That was my thinking but when you're allegedly a billionaire does it make that much of a difference?
