From the Trib:

An employee of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in the Barrington area was killed this morning when a snowplow backed into her as she was walking through the hospital parking lot, officials said.

Diane Shogren, 51, of Ingleside, was pronounced dead just after 6 a.m., Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd said.

Both she and the driver of the truck, a 2012 Ford F-450, were employees of the hospital, Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Sara Balmes said.

The snowplow backed into Shogren in one of the hospital’s parking lots as she made her way into work around 5:30 a.m., Rudd said.

Balmes said it was snowing heavily at the time and visibility was limited.

Officials weren’t sure how fast the truck was going, but said all safety equipment — including lights and backup alarm — were working on the truck, they said.

Balmes said the incident is still under investigation, and she didn’t know whether citations would be issued.

The driver of the snowplow got out of his truck after backing into Shogren and called for help, Rudd said. Employees from the hospital, located at 450 W. Illinois Highway 22, came out and brought Shogren inside, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Rudd said he wouldn’t be sure of the exact cause of death until a complete autopsy was performed Thursday morning.

“You can hit somebody very slowly, if they fall under (it could be fatal),” he said. “But it’s strictly conjecture.”

An autopsy is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

A few weeks ago, while leaving work a state vehicle with a plow (going at least 50MPH) hit my car with a shit ton of snow while I was turning out of work. My car is black and it was night. Chance are he didn't see me. I pulled up next to him at a light and the guy apologized. I thought that was pretty nice.

Today while driving on work property,a guy in a private truck was driving really fast on the wrong side of the road coming right at me. For a quick second,I thought I was about to become a wheelchair bound millionaire or worse. He veered out of the way with a few seconds to spare. I know time is money, but don't kill anybody!

Maybe you should put green neon lights on your black Civic, so they can see you. DUH

With this winter's 130% of average snowfall a lot of operators are being stretched pretty thin, especially with the multiple-days-in-a-row storms. And now with the days getting longer, it's getting lighter earlier. I have always felt safer plowing in the dark- you can see the other cars easier with their lights on. This unfortunate story sounds as id th evictim ignored the warning lights/horn. Can't be good for anyone involved.

Always assume the plows or any vehicle cannot see you in any parking lot. Even at low speed, getting run over can really put a crimp in your day.

The plow guys around here have been freakin' dying around here the last two years. It's messed up that lady got run over. She assumed the driver saw her and it cost her life.

Jimmy, I just heard about it this morning. A friend of mine on Facebook knew and was friends with her.
Two kids in college, that just sucks.

I can take a guess on what the cause of death is.
