I'm glad Canada beat the USA because Brian Burke and David Poile are utter buffoons, but Canada's self-congratulation at having the world's best hockey players is getting kind of lame. It'd be like Americans exploding in jubilation because we have the best baseball players. Yeah, I should fucking hope so.

Kind of interesting that the escalation of Canadian pride in international play coincides with the end of the Canadiens/Flames/Oilers as perennial Stanley Cup contenders, as well as the framing of every Canadian club going deep as somehow playing on behalf of all of Canada (unless it's the Canadiens in 2010, in which case fuck them). It's almost as if they're telling themselves this is important more than they're telling us.
