Been to Vegas many times but never for the tournament. Any recommendations on places to watch games other than sports books. I'm assuming it will be large crowds and lines like Super Bowl weekend. |

You want places to watch the games in Vegas that aren't sports books? |

You will not be able to walk into a book within 1 hour of the first game and find a chair open. yet alone a group of them. I suggest finding one of those other bars in the hotel that shows the games. You dont get the vibe of the game, but better than standing for 6 hours. Remember, 10:40AM first game is 8:40 AM, early game out there, thus the book is filled by 7 AM. Its a major reason we stopped going for first round tourney. HOWEVER, let me tell you what we did do. couldnt find a seat, we placed our bets, watched some of the game standing up...then at 11:45 AM, we took a cab to SOLID GOLD. We walk in and no girls dancing, just 2 bartenders, a waitress, some girls walking in and the manager. Manager runs over and says they arent technically open, we tell him we are looking to hang all day and watch games. The manager totally sets us up, with 2 TVS in a section that the stage wasnt going to be used during the day, most of the girls hung out with us all day. One of my guys married a tough NW side irish chick. Daughter of a cop, shes cute, but tough, hey, its his type. Essentially there was a girl there, that was like his wife only 15 years younger. Same look, same voice and she grew up in chicago. She was all over him all day. Massages, kisses, rubbing, etc. We drank a ton, the manager ordered us pizzas and then at like 6ish as the sun went down, we walked outisde....and my guy is covered with lipstick marks....one of many great vegas trips... So, I would say, find a dive bar...go for the nudie bar...and go and watch there....gonna be tough finding seats. |

I knew my statement about not wanting to watch in the sports book would draw some well deserved sarcasm BUT having been to Vegas for a few Super Bowl weekends (we're happy for ya) I know the sports book would not be an option I'd want. Wall to wall hungover dudes........pass. We'll bet the day before the game which still can be a task. Bigfan and Chus got the gist of it. I'm hoping to find a pool that would a have a decent outdoor setup with some good views but no luck so far. Worse case scenario we'll hit a dive bar for a couple days then we're on to Scottsdale (main reason I tagged along) for round 2 of blowing the annual bonus. |

No doubt an insane trip which I had nothing to do with planning other than $ but after this winter I'd settle for a trip to a lukewarm swamp for a True Detective tour hosted by Matt Spiegel and Len Kasper. |

Not Ceasars, Mirage, or Mandalay or any of the smaller ones I've been to. Just sat and watched last year's NHL finals last year in Ceasar's. The only one I've "had" to spend serious cash at to sit and watch stuff was Lagasse's stadium thing. Probably won't do that again. It was really expensive. |

I think at the MGM Grand it was a $600 minimum purchase though not including tax and tip. If you are with 8-10 people though it isn't that bad since it's all food and alcohol with no fee simply to be there.

Food is like bar food you can get in Schaumburg but costs more because of Emeril's signature. I guess if you were able to snag one of those stadium style seats and wanted to hang out there all day, it might be okay, but it's not my thing. I want to be able to watch racing too. |

They all knew him so he introduced me around and no one batted an eye. So here I was, 18 or 19, and drinking beers with all these old grizzled handicappers and placing bets at the window in a Vegas casino. Maybe it was for the best none of my longshots came in or we might have had an issue. Maybe he wasnt the most responsible or PC person that you could meet but I miss that old man more than anyone else in this world. |
