did you guys see this? i don't see a thread on it so i can hook it up with a link to the story and some pics, but holy shit it happened @ o-hare station @250am this morning and you know ~20-25 of those ~30+ hospitalized (cuz only 6 are "Serious condition") are, uh, the residentially transcendental going to the hospital so they can sue the fuck out of the CTA and wait for their "CTA checks" (much like that one old/ish guy i met on the metra who str8up cackled when he said he was in a metra derailment a few years earlier and he didnt even get hurt but the "metra checks" have been hooking him up for the last few years)

I'm guessing someone fell asleep at the wheel.

The backlit glass-block walls at the O'Hare L station are so delightfully '80s. They're just missing some randomly placed neon squiggles and a loop of "Jump" and "Valerie" playing at all times.

moment of silence...

It appears that some of them are the new train cars too.

It reminded me of the train crash scene in Skyfall.

I've been trying to decide how fast that train had to be going to jump the bump post, then ride up the escalator. Maybe... 20 mph?

I see later stories have said the motorman lady fell asleep/blanked out. This is a lot like what happened in Spuyten Duyvil/Bronx derailment (only, no deaths.)

The CTA nerd in me would tell you that the new cars are only on the Green, Pink, and Red lines.

30 people taken to the hospital so by doing Chicago math that means 400 people where on the train and will be suing the CTA

Were you driving the train? Can you lose your pension twice?

No because unlike the person who was I would not have admitted to anything even to my union rep like she did.

That didn't take long...I wonder if Spada is the attorney.

edit: It's Corboy & Demetrio....same people who represented Keith Magnuson, Frank Thomas, Dave Duerson. Train Chasing, indeed.

Broken foot as well as a back injury... I think that's a valid suit.

Correct.

If there was ever time for a lawsuit, it would be with this. The safety stop didn't work either, which made this situation so much worse. They're actually lucky this happened in the middle of the night/early morning when no one was probably on the platform. Someone may have been killed if this was during morning or evening rush.

Because its an elevated train.

You guys are right. And the fact that it's a high profile agency like Corboy and Demetrio should let you know the validity of it.

Just in case you thought that the lawsuits against the CTA were unjustified, news today is that the operator had a record of falling asleep in the past.

Had a guy I was in class with when training for my job that did the same. Could barely read when asked to read aloud. When the final exams were issued, he amazingly was the last one still working on it in an empty classroom save the instructor. He ummm, wasn't allowed to fail. Bad apples get passed thru all the time.

in that position, that offense seems like something that shouldn't warrant additional chances

as in, you show up 10 minutes late to work...ok warning
you fall asleep at the switch, you're one and done
