Post subject: | Ever had a supernatural experience? |
I posted this in the Food section about the McCormick Mansion/Lawry's experience I had... got me wondering if anyone had any supernatural or unexplained experiences. I have two others I'll share should this spark any interest. Darkside wrote: I did some side work once for Lawry's. They paid me and then tipped me 2 dinners, steak and lobster tail. Took the wife there. Anyway they have a ballroom there that I was pulling wire thru. There were no tables set up there so I asked didn't they use the room for dinner seating? Nope. Why? Because they've gotten... complaints. Pressing further the guy told me that guests have seen ghosts there. People would feel someone grabbing their ankle under the table and look and no one was there. There apparently was a late night waiter there that saw someone sitting at a table after hours, smoking a cigar. Walking up to him he told him to extinguish the cigar and he had to leave, and the man laughed at him, the waiter started walking out to get the manager and turned around before he left the room and the guy was gone. There was only 2 exits to the room and he would have had to have sneaked past him to get out of either of them. So they simply didn't use the room anymore. There was a creepy vibe while I was working up there... even before I was told the story. I didn't see anything unusual. I did take my wife for dinner there. Had prime rib and lobster tail on the house. Excellent martinis. Asked the waitress if she'd ever had unusual experiences there and she said that most of the staff there had. She refused to elaborate. So have any of you ever had any supernatural experiences? |

Not personally, but I have heard similar stories about a pub/restaurant here called the Wooden Keg. The Wooden Keg was a Molly Maguire hangout (go google them, interesting group) and they have a hidden cave room that was a hideout for when the Pinkerton detectives were looking for them. Anyway, the basement/ground floor is the dining area and I was there a couple months ago and our server told us how almost once a week something fluky happens down there. They will be upstairs in the bar area after hours and they will hear chairs moving downstairs or people whistling down there, etc. When they go and inspect the chairs will be all over the place and some will be knocked over. They stopped putting the chairs on the tables at night because they would be knocked off. Our server refused to go down there after the place closed. Great food though. |

When my cousin's daughter was smaller, we'd all be in my aunt's kitchen, & the kid would be looking in the living room (aka "frunchroom") saying "HI" & waving @ somebody, but nobody was in there. I've also seen shadows go by, not only there, but @ my old apartment & where I'm @ now. #oldhouses |

There are several I have had experience with: My Grandmother died in my parents house. After that cabinets would open and close. Vacuum would start up all by itself. My mom saw her standing at the foot of her bed one time. I have felt her before as my bedroom was her old room where she died. At the old Niles University campus. Peter Blechley did research for the Exorcist there. One night a book he had open on his desk levitated off the desk burst into flames and shoot and smashed into the wall leaving scorch marks. The priests boarded it up and surrounded the doorway with crosses. So a friend of mine was at school there I went to visit him and he showed it to me. 20+ years later still sealed up and when you look through the keyhole the light was still on and burning you could feel the presence of something not nice. As a teen we messed round with Ouija boards. One thing we contacted was knocking out ceiling tiles and other shit. after that I never messed round with that kinda shit. I have been to some truly haunted places like the old Dome room next Excalibur. Shadows moving and shit that place always gave me creeps. |

My Aunts birthday was a few weeks after my grandmother died. The week of her birthday my aunt had a dream in which my grandma tells her she had already bought her birthday present and it was hidden in an upstairs closet at my grandparent's house. My aunt goes over to the house the next day and sure enough the present was in the closet. |

I have dreams all the time that are weird. I've had them since I could remember. Sometimes things in my dreams have actually happened. When I lose people I'm close to they tend to dominate my dreams. After my father died as a kid I would always pray that I would wake up and he would be alive and that my mother would actually be the one that was dead. That seemed like a fair trade to me. One year around Christmas I said my normal prayer before I went to bed. I had a dream that my father was alive and he was in our living room helping me put up the Christmas decorations. The living room in my dream was just like I had left our living room that night. The dream felt so real. As it was ending he told me to check on the smoke alarm. When I woke up the fucking smoke alarm was going off. Unfortunately he wasn't alive. When my friend was killed 5 year ago I would have dreams with him trying to tell me who killed him and me trying to warn him that someone was going to kill him. He was a huge Bears fan and a big Cutler fan. The Bears traded for Cutler less than a month after he was killed. My grandmother passed away last May and I've had dreams about her at least twice a week over the past year. Most of them only last for what appears to me 10 to 15 mins. At first she was always alive in the dreams and not sick but after a few months I was aware that she was dead in my dreams even though she was alive. I had one last year that seemed like it lasted for hours. In the dream she told me things that I couldn't have any knowledge of. She was telling me about a man and a boy from a city I had never heard of in Arkansas. Something happened when she was a child. When I woke up I remembered the city and looked it up. To my surprise there was actually a city by that name in Arkansas. |

There cannot be supernatural experiences. Bernsie said so. No religion, no faith, death and into the hole or cremated receptacle you go. If there is nothing more than this why in the world would someone hang around to give you all hallucinations? |

My brother and nephew independently told me that they saw a chair in my basement push itself back under the table. The ghost is better behaved than my children |

I had a recurring dream as a child that I was being chased by a tall wolf that walked on two legs. I would wake up and see the wolf standing next to my bed. I then found out that something similar happened in the amityville horror |

One time I was levitated in my bed. Like at least one foot. Felt the presence of something. Something evil. Yeah. Could have been a dream. I'm not sure. I'm saying 60-40 that it was an attempt by the Devil to possess Beardown. But, like many of you guys trying to defeat me, the devil failed. Devil: Beardown: |

I remember most of my dreams, plus I can kind of control them most of the time. It is hard to teach yourself how to do it but it is a cool thing to do. One of y medications has the side effect of giving what they call vivid dreams. Man they are not kidding. Shit is so real sometimes I can not tell what is a dream. |

When I was young, I had a dream that the ghost of Henry VIII was going to eat me. I was in my bed, in the dark, & the green phantasm of the King was bouncing towards me, saying, "Feed me..." |

My grandparents and great-grandmother lived on separate floors of a two-flat apartment they co-owned. Over the span of my lifetime, my great-grandmother and grandfather died in the same bedroom on the first floor. My grandmother all but died in the same bedroom, but was moved to the hospital days before she succumbed to cancer. I was out of college a year after the last death, so I decided to just move into the first floor apartment. I don't believe in ghosts and fully realize it was my mind playing tricks on me, but we had multiple "things" happen: - One night I woke up completely paralyzed. It was the midst of summer, but I was shivering from the cold. After a few minutes I closed my eyes and tried my best to catch my breath. When I finally gained control again, I realized the power was out. Still not sure if I had a seizure or what, but it never happened again. - When my girlfriend stayed over for a few nights, there was several times we would hear the water running in the kitchen, but then we would stop hearing it as soon as we started to get out of bed. My grandmother used to always walk around with cheap sandals. Occasionally, we would hear the distinct sound those sandals make in the house. Most likely it was the neighbor upstairs, but it was freaky nonetheless. - The TV and sound system would regularly have issues. Again, probably the wiring or something, but when we moved them out to a new house, they never experienced the same problems. Completely separately of this instance, the Red Lion pub on Lincoln, I believe, gave off extremely weird vibes when you walked upstairs. The building is gone, I think. Then there was the supposed sightings of Dillinger's ghost across the street in the alley behind the Biograph. Never saw anything over there, but could easily see people mistaking a drunk homeless guy stumbling into the alley for a ghost. |

If we are talking about dreams, I have documented my recent vivid ones here over the years. I still have no explanation for the bishop who, soon after my dream, became the catholic church's American point man on exorcism and seems to have shifted most of his energies onto the diabolical. |
