I took this more as a recommendation to broaden the holiday itself to include other suppressed groups instead of limiting it to one person (like morphing Washington's/Lincoln's birthday into Presidents Day, though I know that was for different reasons). Somewhat (or barely) related, a few days ago I passed the stupidest honorary Chicago street sign (they are all stupid, but oh well). This one said "Disability Pride Parade Way." Okay, I understand "Walter Payton Way" and "Muddy Waters Way". But Disability Pride Parade Way? |

As someone who is part Dago, I couldn't care less for Columbus Day. There are much more important Italians that deserve to be honored. |
