Minneapolis has changed the name of "Columbus Day" to "Indigenous People's Day".

MLK day is changing to African American Orator's Day to not slight Jesse Jackson and others
Labor Day is changing to No Labor, Most People are on Unemployment Day
Adding Alzheimers Day for people who can't remember what we are supposed to honor on Memorial Day

Not sure how many people could possibly qualify under that one...everything everywhere will remind you what we are supposed to be celebrating/honoring on that day.

Some critics of MLK would probably like to change that to Civil Rights Day

I took this more as a recommendation to broaden the holiday itself to include other suppressed groups instead of limiting it to one person (like morphing Washington's/Lincoln's birthday into Presidents Day, though I know that was for different reasons).

Somewhat (or barely) related, a few days ago I passed the stupidest honorary Chicago street sign (they are all stupid, but oh well). This one said "Disability Pride Parade Way." Okay, I understand "Walter Payton Way" and "Muddy Waters Way". But Disability Pride Parade Way?

About 10 minutes' worth of reading ... a primer, as it were ... if you're interested ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Luther_King,_Jr.#FBI_and_King.27s_personal_life

Last line somewhat interesting ... Judge John Lewis Smith, Jr. in 1977 ordered that all known copies of the recorded audiotapes and written transcripts resulting from the FBI's electronic surveillance of King between 1963 and 1968 to be held in the National Archives and sealed from public access until 2027.

As someone who is part Dago, I couldn't care less for Columbus Day. There are much more important Italians that deserve to be honored.

I'm sure Philadelphia already celebrates Rocky Balboa day. Let's replace President's day w/ that.
