Recently a 15 yr old girl that our family knows announced that she was pregnant via social media.

I was amazed at the number of adults who were fawning all over her praising her and all for this situation. "OMG I am so excited for you....You are going to be a great mother..." etc

I feel so torn with these situations arise. I know things happen and kids get pregnant at times and we want to be supportive of them. But it just really bothers me that we celebrate such things. I fear for other young girls who see such praise and think "Hey maybe I should get pregnant too..." 15 yr old girls should not be having kids.

Especially as a father of 4 daughters who are impressionable I just really worry about such things.

Sad. Frustrated. Confused.

Anyone else wrestle with such things? Any thoughts....

As long as your daughters know this. Good luck.

Yes, I wrestle with such things.

Ive seen fathers put pictures up of their daughters that shocked me. (not that they wore it, but that Dad is not only ok with it, but promoting it)

Lots of stuff like that.

Teen pregnancy is a tough one. 15 is so young. She probably shouldnt be bragging about it in the first place, but once she does, there's not much to do other than say nothing or say congrats you can do it

I miss shame.

Also, I've told my wife, and I'm dead serious, when my daughters get 'of age' they are going to be put on birth control. Period. End of story.

(see what I did there)

Seriously though, teenagers are dumb because their brains are not developed, they can't think through consequences of actions like getting knocked up at 15.

I know that guys sometimes give their members nicknames, but "Social Media" is the dumbest nickname I have ever heard.

I'm aware of the painting with a broad brush idea but anyone who celebrates the idea of a 15 yr old girl giving birth or a 15 yr old boy becoming a Dad is a fucking dope.

How else are we going to get top-quality mother-daughter porn?

Benefits of girls having kids at that age:

they're own mothers are young enough to handle being the primary caregiver for the kid.

they're likely to still have grandparents alive and vibrant enough to give the actual mother's parents (the baby's grandparents) a break every now and then.

they're bodies will snap back into shape from the strains of childbirth so they can still squeeze into a tight little black dress and hit the club every weekend while the above take care of the kid.

Society is a funny thing, isn't it? Let's throw sex in the face of kids at an early age while the social contract says girls shouldn't be having babies until they are in their 20s.

Honestly, I don't know how I would react to my daughter if something like this happened at a young age. I would certainly think that I would be supportive of her. That said, she is in control of her own body and her own decisions, which is what we are trying to teach her. She will learn about responsibility, which you just hope has been instilled in this girl as well. Hell, her kid could turn out to be the next POTUS. You just don't know. I wouldn't let it get you too upset if people are celebrating it. I'm sure there are the same feelings you have being harbored by them.

Fuck that bullshit.

We all watched 'Goodfellas' and 'Godfather" and didn't go out cutting off horse heads and shooting barbacks in the foot.

Expect more from our children - they can handle it.

I'm not saying it did. I know that teenagers have been getting pregnant since the dawn of time. However, celebrating a fifteen year old getting knocked up is weird. On the positive side iirc, the numbers of teenage pregnancies have been going down with sexual health education increasing (in other words, teaching birth control appears to be working).

Grandma? No...I'm too young...grandmothers are old. They bake and they sew and they tell you stories about the Depression. I was at Woodstock for Christ's sake! I peed in a field!
