Wrote a computer program that analyzed which properties on a Monopoly board are landed on most frequently. I ignored any money-related factors and only focused on dice throws (including doubles), go to jail, community chest and chance cards. I used a sample size of 100,000 turns and got the numbers below (property name : percentage of hits). As you can see, jail is landed on almost 2% more than other properties, which balanced out for the most part at 2-3%. I can only suspect that the maker of Monopoly has been subliminally telling people that capitalism will land you in jail and you should choose communism instead. He is actually promoting an idealized form of Capitalism where Chance is uncommon. Realistically, everyone should start on Chance and roll to determine their starting net worth. There should also be a Chance card that allows you to start with billions and requires you to mock the other players as "lazy welfare queens." |

Actually, iirc that kinda in a way sorta was the idea behind his making the 'game' in the first place ... I could look it up but I don't feel like it. |

There are at least several CSFMB members who aspire to be Rich Uncle Pennybags. Oh, the utter joy of being a landlord! |

So did it calculate the first roll from GO! and then every roll after kept moving along the board for 100,000 rolls? Would it be better to calculate as separate games? For instance each game could be 1000 rolls and simulate 1000 games. |

Everyone starts the game with the same amount of money, I'd call that communism. |

I'd be curious to compare the percentages and see if there is any deviation. |

Douchebag wrote: Everyone starts the game with the same amount of money, I'd call that communism. exactly. if it was a capitalist game 3 players would start with $500 and one player would have $15,000,000. the only way for one of the 3 to win would be a gamma ray from another solar system hitting the 4th player directly without collateral damage. it is possible to win!. |
