Last week it was announced that Ben And Jerry’s would be launching a series of flavors inspired by Saturday Night Live sketches—a union that made perfect sense, in that with both SNL sketches and Ben And Jerry’s, no one ever knows when to stop. Speculation ran rampant as to what classic characters and memorable moments from the show’s incredible 40-year history would be loosely translated into the ice-cream manufacturer’s two-dozen or so ingredients. As it turns out, instead they went with Gilly.

The sketch in which Kristen Wiig wears a wig and contorts her face—no, not that one—is the genesis of Gilly’s Catastrophic Crunch, which has a marshmallow swirl “as frantic and mischievous as the flavor’s namesake.” (Mmmm…. frantic.) Also like its namesake, it’s absolute overkill: That marshmallow swirl wends its impish, spastic way around both chocolate and sweet cream ice cream, and it also comes loaded with caramel clusters and fudge covered almonds. For the first few bites, it’s a guilty delight; after the 10th or 12th, you can’t take anymore.

The other flavor, “Lazy Sunday,” is vanilla cake batter ice cream mixed with yellow and chocolate cupcake pieces and a swirl of chocolate frosting. Like the Digital Short it’s based on, it’s even better consumed while high.

Two more SNL flavors are expected later this year. Given that they only seem to be looking at the last decade of the show, you can probably expect something like The Californians’ Rocky Road.

I cannot put into words how much I hated that character.

The show has been on for nearly 40 years and they pick the least funny character of one of the least funny cast members. I suppose Ellen Cleghorne, Molly Shannon, and Jim Breuer will also be getting flavors.

In tribute to his "impressions" of Alex Trebek and Harry Caray, they should have a flavor called Will Ferrell Chocolate that tastes nothing like chocolate.

I really don't find Kristen Wiig to be all that attractive.

Darrel Hammond was probably the best cast member of the last 8-10 years.

A few years back,I was parked by the Woodfield Improv waiting for my daughter to get out of work when I saw him walk by. I yelled "Hey Darrell" & he waved hi. The dude always has the same black suit like Richard Lewis. I used to pick my daughter up a lot. On 2 different occasions,I had 2 young girls walk into my car. I guess all the suburban dad's look alike.

Hutsell's Jan Brady was funny.

That's all I got.
