What the fuck is a " safety check?"

This what we pay cops for?

My understanding is that it's code for 'revenue generator'.

Don't break the law and there wouldn't be revenue being generated.

Now that said... there obviously will be profiling. Cops target specific types of people and types of cars; otherwise, they may spend too much time with the token white guy who was texting vs. the Hispanic guy who is driving on an expired license and no insurance because he barely makes enough to feed his kids and is working 70 hours a week at less than minimum wage because the store owner "can only pay in cash".

Glorified tax collectors who occasionally kill people.

You just made Rudy Guiliani's list.

Hopefully they will target over served hipsters.

Can you get a DUI on a skateboard or unicycle?

Actually, an absolute 'yes' to both.

You would hope, but looking at the numbers, I highly doubt it. Do you know how many people leave the bars in Wicker Park after drinking and then drive home? Yet, they catch more people without licenses, insurance and the magic "other".

They check for seatbelts and if you are not wearing one, it's a citation. Not a ticket. Just a fine. Was 35$, could see it as $50 now.

They will have 3 cops in the street walking as people pull up to lights or stop signs and if they see no seatbelt, they signal you into a parking lot, where another 5 cops are there writing citations.

I wonder what mary mitchell thinks about this!

I think there are other criteria along with seatbelts:

1) Holding your phone
2) Headlights/taillights out
3) Expired license plate
4) Non-white person behind the wheel.

yes, they can CITE you for anything, but seatbelts is an easy one and a good 50/50 especially when driving in the city. I am pretty sure they will focus just on seatbelts until they have completed their FUNDRAISING goal

Meanwhile, 40 more people will be shot while these clowns are looking for seatbelt violations. Fuckers.

While I am sure the cops do actually want to be saving those 40 peoples' lives, you also have to realize that those killings provide justification for increases in budgets. If they did a great job at stopping those murders, they would no longer server a purpose and the budgets would get cut, resulting in people losing their jobs. Just sayin'.

I wrote about this previously. Neither the CPD or Lawyers want to see crime reduced. Crime is good for business & provides job security.

i know you are correct, but it's pretty ludicrous that its the case
should just be a public intoxication charge

that would be a nice one to have, that era Hawks jersey is not too shabby . the late 90's ones with the wide Hawk on the front are one of the worst uniforms ever

I don't think the cops do it knowingly, but I'm sure there are some in administration that do.

they arent after your money. they want you in jail, and what better reason to pull you over other than "we have no probable cause, we just want to search you"

Well, technically they aren't after the money. "Illegal" search and seizures confiscate people's property, which is what the cops are after.

It makes me sick when someone says if I'm not doing anything wrong, I've nothing to worry about. How about just leave me alone and not harass me as a matter of course?

We live in a fucking police state.

This thread reminds me of some advice I wanted to give in case any of you head for South Bend for ND sports.

There are 2 nasty speed traps in the area that are really raking in the cash. First is through Roseland ("933"), just northwest of ND, and second is lower Grape Road in Mishawaka. You really have to watch these.

The Grape Road speed limit is goddamned ridiculous: 30 MPH for a stretch of 4-lane highway! Got my first ticket in my life on there, with no other traffic around. I'll get even with these motherfuckers.
