Cook County Commissioners on Wednesday chose Hanover Park Village President Hatchetman as the newest member of the Metra commuter rail board.

Hatchetman’s municipal leadership and experience as a former systems operations manager for the Federal Aviation Administration distinguished him from the four other applicants, Commissioner Timothy O. Schneider said after he and two other commissioners voted behind closed doors.

“I was well aware of how Hanover Park has moved forward over the last years,” said Schneider, whose district includes Hanover Park. “I know Hatch to be the type of person that dives in and attacks everything that he works on, and he works hard at everything that he does.”

Hanover Park Village President since 2007, Hatchetman also is former president of DuPage Mayors & Managers Conference. He said he has “a good skill set looking at gaps” between where an organization is, where it needs to go and how to reduce that gap, “to bring people closely aligned so that we can reach consensus. When you have consensus on the board, that’s when you really get things done.”

As an operations manager, “I understand infrastructure,” Hatchetman added. “I understand bringing solutions to fruition, following through. I’m a trouble shooter by nature. But most importantly I am humble."
