If you could advise Chicago radio hosts on how to treat callers... what would your advice be?

Sort of as an aside... if a caller says something stupid, should they say it's stupid? Let is pass? Ridicule them?

And then get a stern talking to.

And a talking to from Stern.

David, Daniel and Howard.

The golden age of the Score used to play Hendricks when a person made a stupid call. It was fun and funny for everyone. It got the point across without really embarrassing the caller.

Exactly.

Radio is theatre of the mind.

Mike North was always cordial to callers.

Don't recall that one. Ozzie Smith was Don Kessinger with better publicity and that smooth astroturf carpet.

Too much condescension and disdain by sports hosts when dealing with callers. Callers provide content.
Les is a weirdo but the rare times I'm up late I enjoy listening when he gets into pretty lengthy debates/discussions with callers.

Silvy is pretty good with callers. And they do something similar to Hendrix, but they play the sound of a roulette ball rolling across the table, sometimes twice for the same caller if he is extremely bad.

It was faux outrage that got way more attention and airtime than it deserved. I couldn't tell you the specifics off the top of my head (thank Allah) but Ozzie was being a penis and North decided to double-down on the incident by playing the "don't disrespect me or my listeners" card and came off sounding more like the Caller Bob at Starbucks losing her shit over getting 2% instead of soy milk than Billy Blue Collar.

Yes. And Ozzie is not a caller.

North's treatment of Isiah Thomas and Mike McCaskey is legendary and was the catalyst for the Score becoming THE sports station in town.

His calling Isiah out for walking off the floor without shaking hands is still one on the best moments in Chicago sports radio. Ever.

My favorite was when the HFC would use the song clip "one toke over the line, sweet Jesus, one toke over the line..."

 I think you and I may be the only two guys who read it that way though. The Score narrative is that Ozzie swore and North put him in his place. What a fucking joke.

Yeah, and Isiah called North out for thinking he was a basketball player because he made free throws at Truman College.

I don't remember it.

I was glad someone finally called out Isiah for the three dollar bill that he is.

Stupid callers also spawned Score buzz phrases like "See Ya"...but developing that kind of branding would actually take forethought and production

Didn't B&B used to play "Ring of Fire" to denote bad calls?
