I have my 20th coming up this Saturday and I only had to ponder it for about 30 seconds before
deciding I was not going to attend. I have not attended the 5 or 10 year versions either. Have
you guys gone, and if so was it better or worse than you were expecting? I literally have stayed
in touch with maybe two people from high school.

My 20 year was last year. I didn't go to any of them. I still see some of my friends from high school. I don't really have the desire to mingle with people whose only connection to me, is that their parents and my parents moved to the same side of town thirty five years ago.

My ten year was a few years back, and it ended up being cancelled due to the lack of response from people. Everyone just stays connected via social media now, so "reunions" are pretty worthless.

I went and had a blast. I'm mostly still friends with the people I hung out with, so it might have been a fun night out anyway. I liked seeing some people and catching up.

I didn't go, but my class reunion facebook page was basically an argument from the local townies about how pissed they were that they had it "in the city" and how it was going to be more expensive because of it and the people who actually went away to college who wanted to have it in a place that was fun instead of a place where you can basically have a class reunion every weekend.

I believe there was even an unofficial reunion the same day at the local place. I was more than happy to avoid both. I guess 10 years later you can still have stupid high school drama.

I went to my 10 year reunion and it was fun in some ways. We're having a 15th year reunion that I'll likely go to next year.

Ok, this is kinda what I wondered. I am on the reunion facebook page and people have been bitching about
everything from where it is being held, how much it costs and whether or not people are going to pay at the
door or ahead of time. The guy who is organizing it appears to be frantically asking people to pay ahead so
that the room he has reserved will be paid for. I thought $65 for pizza and an open bar was a bit steep, especially
since I wouldn't be drinking. I spent most of my high school years trying to avoid most of the people that are
attending so I'll watch from a far and maybe they will post pics after the fact.

5/10/15/20 were generally a good time. By the 25th, there were hardly any people from outside Rockford attending that I cared to see and it was the townie effect of people that already see each other that Rick described. Pass.

Got my 30th this and there is no way in hell I'm going. Was forced to go to the 25th and I sat in the bar with
the people I went with. My wife who did not go to school with us had a blast.

Edit: they did have a golf outing the day before, that was fun

I had one in April. I was out until 5 am.

I don't get the whole attitude of not wanting to see people from the past. Did you grow up in a John Hughes movie with James Spader picking on you because he was rich?

I don't see my friends as frequently as I would like, so on some level the reunion was just a night out with the boys. However, there are all kinds of interesting people out there from my past who I never get the chance to speak to. It's almost like speed dating where you get 15 minutes of funny or interesting stories from a person and then move on. I never really get to hang out with old teammates. There are people in my profession who I don't get to see socially much. I also kind of like to go up to those people who I never had interaction with and get to know them as an adult. There are plenty of girls who I only really spoke to on a stupid, testosterone filled high school boy level and now I can be the smooth mfer I am today without worrying about being on the make.

It takes a lot for me to look back at people and still dislike them over teenage stupidity. I hope others don't hold it against me either.

I haven't even mentioned that if you are single, the night will usually present some opportunities.

Absolutely. But when those reunions are getting up there in years, you will almost certainly be taking home some damaged goods.

A high school leash was the envy of men and the heartthrob of women. I don't want to steal their esteem as an adult as well.

I pass.

My 10 year was a blast. My friends that I already still keep in touch with went and so we had a good base group and then we just hung out with the periphery friends that we only really see on Facebook. We did have some drama with the set up. They wanted to go to the local bar and just get pizza and beer. I started the opposing faction and campaigned for a more formal dinner/open bar event. I got a lot of props for being the first person to bash the cheap idea and I didnt have to do any planning so it was win/win for me. I hope we do our 15yr.

Also I made a pretty big ass of myself. I was complaining early on that the DJ should have been playing music from roughly our middle school/high school years instead of current crap that no one likes. As the drinks started flowing I began to complain louder and louder and in more uncertain terms that this DJ is a piece of shit and he sucks. Turns out he was someone's husband who was doing it for free to help us out.  I'm just the worst.

I don't dislike people from my high school, I just don't have the desire to hang out with people who were never my friends in the first place. I have several friends from high school, with whom I am still close. I go to their weddings. I know their parents. I play with their kids.

If I was single, I definitely would attend, with the hopes of tagging some babe whose best years are in the rear view mirror.

Gotta side with dolphin, here.

I've never been to a reunion, but I have recently connected with a bunch of former classmates on Facebook. The desperation of many attractive women in their late 30s/early 40s is enormous and obvious.

Yeah, but don't you claim your high school is like some inbred clique of power players in the 10 block area of where you live?

I went to my 10 year high school reunion in 1993. It was $100 per couple just to see that nothing really changed with cliques, personalities, rivalries, etc. It was nothing special and okay at best.

Two weeks after the reunion, the class president sent out letters asking everybody to please send another check for an additional $50 because the final bill for the venue was more than was estimated. She wrote that she was certain that the spirit and generosity of the class of 1983 would unite and help pay the outstanding bill.

I heard that only about six people actually sent her another check!

First and last reunion I have ever attended.
