Of pre-meditated murder. Could still be found guilty of culpable homicide for which he would probably get 5 years.

Pretty surprised by this.

Why are you surprised? I don't know that much about the case but I would have guessed that he
hadn't planned in advance to kill the girl.

I disagree. I thought the evidence and common sense clearly laid out a fight between the two in which she locked herself in the bathroom. He rolled his Lt. Dan ass off the bed, grabbed his gun, and unloaded it into the door. Then spent an hour trying to think of what to do, before having his security report it.

That sure as hell isn't manslaughter. Premeditated can mean only a few moments where he picked up the gun with intent to kill her.
