Post subject:  New Car Shopping

Just spent the last few hours looking for a new car. I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport V6 with 57000 miles. I have no use for the truck and going to trade it in. Went to a Honda dealership and they were willing to trade the truck for a brand new Honda Fit +$2,500 to seal the deal. Said OK but they didn't have the color car I wanted. Put down a deposit and was ready to wait 4 weeks for the car to come in. Get a call when I get home and they say that the Honda doesn't come in the color that I want for the model that I want.

I have a couple questions here.

I the initial deal a good one? They were originally asking for the trade in +$4,800 to do the deal.

Should I walk away and try to find a better deal elsewhere?

Sell your truck at Carmax. Then go shop for a car.

I have the option now at least. Going to Carmax tomorrow to see what they'd take it for. Probably should have done that first but was acting on impulse.

So are you people going to help me buy a girl car or what?

When I get a car color is secondary to price. If you love your deal take a diff color. Or wait for Carmax to help you decide. They will sell you the car next week too. Calm is key in car purchases.

I think the price can be pushed a little lower if I take a car in a different color.

What have other people's experiences been?

You should shop at 2-3 other places as well, and buy toward the end of the month after price shopping now.

We ain't financing and she's really just looking for an A to B car. She's also never owned a new car before so I don't think I'm going to be able to convince her to go for a used one.

I understand.... Well, maybe not.

If you want a simple A to B car than buying new is a rely poor decision. But woman gets what woman wants.

This. Anyway you'll probably get an even better deal in the last four or so days of the month.

I've always gotten great deals by looking for relatively new vehicles that were traded in to dealers that don't sell that brand of vehicle.

For example, I got my Nissan truck as 1 year old at a Honda Dealer, and I paid well below market for it. They just wanted to get rid of it.

But yeah, all of our advice will be bad and not really pertinent to your situation.

The more I think about it the more I think this is a bad deal. I think $1000 would be a fair deal, shit even a straight up trade. Trade in value according to Kelly is around $17,000. That's for a 4WD Tacamoa 4-Door Pre-Sport in good condition. Going to Carmax in the morning.

A least when you buy new you know it's not been beat to shit and neglected. I know a whole shit ton of people are more than happy to dump their problems on someone else. Buying a program car or a demo is terrible. The people that drive those beat the living crap out of them and certainly do no maintenance.

Honda Fit is a great subcompact. No, forget that, a great car. Ignore these folks that know nothing.
