no, not the kind investigated by paranormal societies

I am talking about the scary and fun ones that are created during October. Any recommendations

I saw a sign off the expressway for something Rob Zombie created but I figured that if he was involved it would be derivative, gratuitous and more bloody than scary.

Statesville Prison. You can pay an extra $50 to go through right away OR sit in line for 3.5 hours. Either way, not worth it.

Statesville was good if you enjoy haunted houses. I dont care for them myself, too expensive and I dont particularly like to be scared.

Statesville is a good one. As an adult, it's hard to actually be scared, but Statesville has a great presentation that makes it enjoyable even if not scary.

The decor is cool looking. I dont like people jumping out at me though. That makes me want to start fighting, not having fun.

I used to love haunted houses, but as an adult it's hard to forget the whole "that's some weird dude in a costume" thing. Sometimes I feel obligated to act startled or I feel bad.

Agreed.

I have a friend who was also so inclined. He got guilted into going into a haunted house in Toronto some years ago. Some guy jumped out at him, caught a quick two piece from my friend and had to be carried out. Oh for cell phone video cameras back in those days.

That's how I feel when I just see the people standing around... I'm still a sucker for the 'jump out and scream at you people'. I jump every time and then I get pissed at myself for jumping and then I want to just punch the next person and leave.

For a city dweller like yourself, you may want to try City Hall.

A lot of bodies buried there.

Maybe not the same thing, but I saw ads for a hayride with paintball guns through a "zombie infested" cornfield from one of the pumpkin patch places -- sounds like it might be fun for the kids.

$45 on sale? Fuck that noise. The Rob Zombie one is $25. I'm sure it won't be scary but the scenery will be great. Maybe he will have a look alike of his wife for me to stare at

I concur. I haven't been to one since I was in my late teens. I could think of a thousand things that I would rather do.

So I went to one in Niles on Sunday night. The person who ushered you in to the part where the haunted house began was a dude dressed in drag who was acting very suggestive to us (4 guys). I'd like to think it was the dim lighting but my friend didn't seem to pick up on the adam's apple and was kind of working it. Laughs were had by all after a minute or so.

You weren't in Niles, liar.

Been there and it is a good one. The props are top notch and the people dressed in costume are pretty good too. Worth the drive if you want to go to one that doesn't just send you down a plywood path, with 2nd rate props and help.

so a friend of mine went to this, and said it was the worst HH he'd ever experienced. if you go to yelp, you'll find similar reviews. i think the IL location has probably about a 1 star average rating. looks like it's the long lines that ruin it, but he said there isn't much to do or be scared by either.

we're going to 13th floor on friday. it's pretty expensive...

Post subject:  Re: Haunted Houses

i recommend 13th floor. it's fun. you won't get scared if you're over the age of 14 but it's definitely well done. the actors are prepared and they do their job well. the production value is high. i think if you go on a weekday, low peak, you'll get more of an atmospheric experience.

it does get loud at times. but other than that, it's a good time. i kept yelling "watch out for snakes!". i couldn't help it.
