Does anyone have experience with Net10 or other no contract / prepaid phone plans?

My contract with Sprint has ended. I have a Samsung Galaxy GS3 and was going to sign up for Sprint's prepaid plan for $35 a month with unlimited talk and text and 1GB of data. However, despite the GS3 being one of the phones available for that plan, my Sprint GS3 cannot be used with it because it's set to make international calls and the prepaid GS3 is not. The only carrier I've checked that has a prepaid plan (which is all I really need...I don't make a lot of calls and don't use a lot of data) I can bring my own phone to is Net10.

A buddy of mine who lives in WI switched to Net10 last year, and aside from the initial set up being a pain in the ass (the process did not go smoothly and customer service was useless) he's been satisfied with it and he and his wife will save about $1000 a year. He said that he sometimes receives text messages in bunches as opposed to one at a time, but aside from that it's been pretty much fine.

I can't be the only one looking to save a few bucks on their phone bill.

This LG Volt 4G LTE from Virgin Mobile sounds like a good phone and their plans sound good:

$35/month for unlimited text, 2.5GB of data, and 300 minutes
$45/month for unlimited text, 2.5GB of data, and 1200 minutes

You can do T-Mobile for 30/mo 100 minutes and unlimited data and text. You can also use your own phone provided it's compatible with the network.

I checked, and my phone isn't compatible. The only ones it's compatible with are Net10 and Straight Talk, which are the same company. I think I might do the Virgin Mobile deal above -- might be less of a hassle than the other two.

I was a Nextel/Sprint customer for at least a dozen years, but I just switched to Cricket. I got an LG Optimus L70 for $99. I get unlimited calls/texts/etc., and 10G of data (I have wi-fi in the house, so I will never approach 10), for $60 per month. If you set up auto-pay, they knock off $5.

Sprint = $91.38 per month
Cricket = $55 per month
