So....

I have bragged quite some time about my son the football player. Just for background they noticed him in JR high for a while and as we are in a small district there was no doubt where he would go. No recruiting and crap.

Anyway last spring he was already involved with the weight lifting program and prepping for high school football but he was still in 8th grade. He apparently got a detention on the school bus for fucking around which I guess is somewhat normal for the 14 year old boy. I never even knew about it as he did a "lunch" detention.

Well the HS football boys with their "culture" decided he embarrassed the football team and needed to be beat across the ass with a duct taped rope. He took his the other kids quit. We found out a few weeks later.

The thing got into huge turmoil and coach almost fired and the whole thing. Kid's parents that hit him never apologized to me personally.

Skip to now my kid is in freshman year and plays both JV as well as Varsity and is pretty well appreciated by the coaches. But part of how coach kept job was a bunch of changes that did happen but I found out tonight that apparently there are still "lineman dinners" every week and other "booster" things going on. Nothing seems to have changed.

So they promise some things would change and I said fine due to him wanting to play. Nothing bad to him since. Clearly the culture is still screwed.

SO the question is make a money grad sue and blow up the whole thing or just watch kid like a hawk and let it go?

I was really pissed tonight with pics on local facebook of Lineman Night Dinner.

Document dates and times.

Sit on it until your son graduates, then go sue them.

You don't want to make things any tougher for your son right now.

Let it go, make sure he isnt a part of it, tell him he needs to walk if anything happens and report it. I understand the hazing, it's going to happen, but the mindfuck can be as bad as anything else.

If he is playing JV as a Frosh, you dont want to screw up his ride. Plus, I think it might save you a few bucks?

My understanding they have to sponsor a dinner. Make it, pay for it, reataurant, cater it. Not sure in this case.

That seems OK once, not every week.

Yeah. I'm not doing that once a week either, especially if it's families.

It is harmless in itself just the linemen go each week to a different parents house for dinner. I was under the impression though it was all outlawed.

If there are 20 linemen on a team only one family does it each week. Once a season.

7 days suspended from school but it was hushed and we kept quiet about it.

AT school during an off season weight lifting session.

School changed a bunch of rules

Actually it was close as to whether there would be a season this year and the coach was nearly fired. He actually offered to leave to let the kids have a season. He is not the problem.

It's just pasta before gameday. Rotates before each game.

i'll be willing to bet that this is normal throughout the country, and probably even more intense in the south. i can somewhat attest for that in the south since i played football while living down there.

If the head coach has the problems in his program then he is definitively the problem.

I don't get why this is a bad thing and should be outlawed?
