I have a kid that is like a pet at times, that should count for something dammit.

My family cried real tears when the dog we had for 9 years died a few weeks back. But we were not mommy and daddy people. But they had a Christmas stocking so not sure where I stand in the eyes of Bernsie.

It's a pet and we like him. Nothing more or less. If my house was on fire I wouldn't go back in the house trying to save it regardless of how much my daughter cried.

I like pets. I have a dog. I'm very fond of him. I miss my old dog that died 11 years ago. But they are not children. Not even close.

I might go back in a burning house to save him. Depending on the smoke level.

We are not mommy and daddy people, nor do we humanize our dog or past dogs. However, my dog is my buddy, and you can bet your ass that when he dies, I will be a wreck for awhile. It's been like that with any dog I've ever owned. There is a connection I've had with my dogs that is certainly different than a human-human connection, but still worthy of time and effort and dedication. I've trained every dog I've ever had to listen to me on command, which is probably more than I can say about any two humans. Their loyalty is second to none.

Beyond that, domesticated animals are fascinating. We have selectively bred them for specific traits. We disrupted the natural selection process so that they could evolve alongside us. We all have common history.

Last year my dog died in my arms at the vet. I cried like a fucking baby when it happened and still get choked up thinking about it now. Id take a baseball bat to Dan Bernstein if it meant having one more day with that dog.

I would just prefer you take a baseball bat to Dan Berntein period, no matter the reason.

We have thought about fostering but it would be too hard to give up the dogs.

This man always seems to have the correct answer to every question. It is a good thing he never learned about contraception or that wisdom might be lost on the next generation.

3 cats.
Oldest is a boy.
The other two are sisters, about a year and half old.
They were born on my 39th birthday.
I love all 3 of them.
Cats rule.

Being a single guy with no kids, it was tough after I put my first dog down. I waited for 6 months and
then decided I really could use a puppy in my life. 18 months later he is still a big pain in the ass but
I enjoy coming home and knowing that he is happy to see me and wants to go for walks and play. I
don't honestly treat him like my kid, but he is entirely my responsibility which is part of the reason I
got him. He's definitely part of my family and the girl I am seeing really wasn't a dog person when I
got him but she has grown to love him to and even watches him and takes him out when I golf on
the weekend. My family had cats when I was growing up and when I was married but I don't think I
would ever go that route again ( nothing against cat people ).

I have a dog. It was my family's choice as he was a stray that grew on them. I like my dog enough, but I really don't care for dogs.

But I fired a vet once behind his cutesy insistence in giving my dog my family's last name. I asked him not to do it and the prick turned around and sent my dog a thank you note addressed to him and with my last name. He didn't believe how much it annoyed me.

His office is right around the corner from my office & I occasionally walk my dog past there. After 12 years he still looks at me funny. Fuck him (especially with the $$$ my wife has spent on that damn dog).

It gets 'kind of' easier after time. We just keep telling ourselves that us fostering a dog opens up a spot in the kennel to rescue a dog from the streets/kill shelter. We pick and choose who we foster though to ensure housebroken/doesn't chew on shit etc ahead of time.

Once we get married I'm sure we'll rescue a puppy and just have one dog.
