Buddy of mine working downtown took this picture of our drinking water pipes. City workers told him this was normal and not to worry because the sludge just sits at the bottom of the pipe.

Next time you are cleaning your kitchen/bath, unscrew the end of the faucet and see what hs been caught in the mesh filter screen. In the city odds are you will have some clay/iron/dirt.

MMmmmm mmmm

Oh yes... always a fan of showing the kids this when they "clean" the bathroom. Just wet some paper towel and scrub it on there and boom, tons of black junk.

But compared to what is in the water supply of most other places, it's not that bad.

that is the dumbest argument that gets made over and over.

nasa spacestation water comes from urine.

bottled water that comes from city tap water is filtered the same way spacestation water is- reverse osmosis. 99.9% of ANYTHING in the water is removed, and then further disinfected with uv light... making it the cleanest possible water you can get. they actually have to add minerals back into the water so it doesnt taste odd (pure water tastes weird)

in reality, the desani or aquafina bottled water is actually cleaner than most spring water.

and to say none of it matters is bullshit. would you rather a machine filter the shit out of your water or just hope your body can do it? because in the end, your cells just want clean water.

Fuck you ike. We evolved to drink dirty water. There weren't monkeys sitting around who suddenly started using fluoride after launching shit at each other. Only Dan Bernstein evolves that fast.

EAT SHIT AND DIE

Correct.

I simple and brief Google search will inform you of this and that bottled water is really no safer than tap.

The black stuff is MOLD...now unscrew the screen and look in there.

Rust particles and scale are very common in indoor home plumbing. So unless you have all-copper and/or PVC/pex pipes (and your water heater is clean as a whistle to boot), your own steel pipes are contributing to the bits found caught in your faucet aerators.

City water travels for miles to reach your residence. So while the city tests it for contaminant levels on their end of things, they won't take responsibility for the old pipes it travels through to reach your home, with interior rust.
