In the very early stages, but my wife and I are talking about getting an above ground swimming pool. Her mom has one (4' deep, guessing about 20' across), and she's moving so we are kicking around the idea of taking it.

Anyone ever move a pool? Anyone know of a guy/company who does this, and possibly sets it up at the new location? We would have to level part of our backyard as well. The area it would have to go with no wires above is clearly not level. What sort of cost might we be looking at?

I'm going to work the phones tomorrow calling some companies in between interviews to get an idea, but figured I would ask here to see if anybody has any experience with this.

Thanks!

We had an above ground pool put in a few years ago. Keep in mind about the electrical aspect for the pump and filter. We had to run an entire line from the house out to the pool. We also use the chemical Baquacil and not chlorine. It's a kinder and gentler chemical on skin, eyes and swimsuits. You have to keep up on the water/chemical level using those test strips but once you get everything at a good level, Baquacil is way easier to maintain than chlorine... IMO. This is very important because buying chemicals can be very costly if you lose control of the levels. Also, if you can, place the pool in the highest place of your yard because of natural rain run off. We put ours in the part of the yard that is most sunniest for most of the day. Keeps the water warm and more enjoyable in later parts of the day. Good luck, FC!

 And this is the flipside of my previous post. It is a lot of work and responsibility to keep up with a pool. On a smaller scale, it's similar to owning a boat.

i entered this thread hoping it was a "let's laugh at liverpool" thread because we need some of those around here, cuz idk about shirtless driver but i'm pretty sure just about every other soccer head is an american scouser who's too good to banter with me.

and HOO BOY was this morning some primo "laugh at liverpool" territory. #YNJFT96A!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

back on topic, idk if i'd ever want a pool in/at my house cuz it's just one more place i could fuck up and die at my own house, real talk.

In hindsight it was great at time but is a lot of work. I do not think it gets used as much as you would think. Carefully, think about how much kids will use and their age. Also, your schedule if kids not old enough to use without you on top of them.

I'm sure your neighbors will be thrilled with the loss in their home values

Every cop seems to have one. I have lived next door to two of them in my life

We put up bushes that will grow to 15 feet to keep our privacy and they acted like it was us being unsociable

I'm surprised that a Man of your ilk made 2 housing mistakes like this.

you know, a few years ago i went down to indianapolis with a friend who was doing a live PA show (i.e. he brought all of his electronic music gear, and this dude had a devilfish-modded tb-303 so you're looking at ~2200-2500 for that one piece alone) and while the show itself was in "downtown" indianapolis at the nice posh apartment of some guy who you figured out was gay when you went and took a piss and saw the motivational poster of a bunch of banana hammocks hanging above you (thus explaining the sculptures of male torsos all throughout the living room), man before that we had to pick up a couple'a friends in "real" indianapolis and it was an eye-opener.

not only was it the only place i've personally encountered in life where i saw multiple houses with SUVs parked on their front lawns, but i also saw a white trash looking girl walking down the middle of the street..... barefoot.

i'd imagine if i ever ventured back to kankakee i might see such things (as it was, i remembered the place to be odd cuz there were a bunch of kids who were playing in the street when i drove by and not only did they not move, but they all started hitting my car with sticks when i drove by. where's a common core education when you need it?) but yeah.... indianapolis aka "downtown indiana" prolly has a lot of above ground pools. call it a hunch!

I'm interested in this above ground pool = white trash theory.

I guess I just never made that connection. I grew up in a condo with an in ground pool.

What is the difference between above ground and in ground money wise?

About 15 grand, minimum.

Above ground pools were very common where we grew up.

I think I would take an above ground pool over no pool, but that's just me.
