I've never watched it. Not one episode. Ever.

I'm NOT a fan of Family Guy, which I have seen a few episodes of. Also, I do not like Futurama.

I enjoy most South Park episodes.

Comedies I've liked: Always Sunny, Arrested Development, Archer, Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, The Office

Comedies I've disliked: Family Guy, Two and a Half Men, Big Bang Theory, That 70's Show, most of Scrubs

Is it for me?

Maybe the first few seasons.
But you're the weirdest guy I know. If 200 million Americans love it I'm sure you'll hate it.

They did an episode about soccer once that had me in tears laughing. I haven't watched it in like 10 years but the early seasons were pretty good.

If you're gonna watch it, start with season 5 and end at season 8. That's when the show was at its best. The Springfield Files will always be my favorite, followed closely by Lisa's Rival.

I'd back it up to 3 through 8. But seriously, what a dumb question.

2-8.

Season 2 is a tad uneven but that's when things get really good.

And yes, that's a dumb ass question, DORK.

Watch Newhart instead. It's a much more subversive show.

This seems right to me.

There's a lot I like in season 2 but owing to the unevenness, I'd double back for it after watching 4-7 where almost every episode is a home run.

I can't believe Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish is season 2.

That's an all-timer.

Ironic, isn't it, Smithers. This anonymous clan of slack-jawed troglodytes has cost me the election, and yet if I were to have them killed, I would be the one to go to jail. That's democracy for you.

IIRC, most Simpsons aficionados say the first season wasn't as good as the legendary ~6-9 year run it had starting in season two going right up until the epoch of "jerkass homer", but as a rule of thumb vintage Simpsons humor would make a pop/culture reference and do something clever with it, whereas family guy tends to be OMFG I REMEMBER [THAT REFERENCE] LOLRANDOM!!!! Hahahahsha

"Remember that one time I went deep sea fishing with Kevin bacon, optinus prime, and Judy Garland? *cutaway to peter deep sea fishing with Kevin Bacon optimus prime and judy garland while you laugh your ass off!!!!*

Oh and "that show where the (brilliant supervillian)baby wants to kill his mother" became "that show where the baby is gay" --- hilatity ensues.

Lisa's Substitute is from season 2. If you can't appreciate the heart of The Simpsons watching this episode, may God have mercy on your soul.

Yes, there have been funnier episodes, but you won't find many others that showcase how smart and touching that show once was.

I pretty much watch now out of habit. It hasn't been the same for about 15 years, though there are glimpses of past glory.

They lost me as a fanatic when Marge said "penis" in an episode. I'm not a prude but the show just got crass.

Five best episodes of the moment and a handful more:

Marge v. the Monorail
Last Exit to Springfield
I Love Lisa
Rosebud
Krusty Gets Kancelled
----
Burns' Heir
A Star Is Burns
$pringfield
Lisa's Substitute
Lisa's Rival
Lisa the Vegetarian
Like Father, Like Clown
Boy Scoutz N The Hood
The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show
You Only Move Twice
Cape Feare
Homer Goes To College
Homer Badman
Mr. Plow
Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire
Hurricane Neddy

For good measure, here's my favorite Itchy & Scratchy. It just gets me every time.

EDIT: and add "22 Short Films About Springfield." Oh, that's a good one.

On second thought, IMU, don't watch "Last Exit to Springfield," because when you get to the DENTAL PLAN!/Lisa needs braces! gag, you'll say that Homer should get neither the free beer nor the dental plan so that the power plant can make more money, and then it won't be any fun.

hey CH, whats that (first?) ~5yr anniversary/retrospective episode of the simpsons called something like "the simpsons: behind the laughs" ?? one thing i remember from that is at the end of the episode they're like "and this show will go on and on declining in quality until it's no longer deemed profitable and necessary" and it's like HA THEY TOTALLY CALLED WHAT WAS GONNA HAPPEN TO THE SHOW!!!

The 138th Episode Spectacular? That one was really good for a clip show. They had deleted scenes which as a kid I thought were made just for that episode as a joke but turned out to be real deleted scenes after all: "release the robot Richard Simmons," for instance.

I'm kinda with IMU on this.
I've seen several Simpsons episodes, but probably not even 25% of what they've done.
Same goes for South Park, (probably about 40%)
I'm in that odd demo that thinks Family Guy is often hilarious.
I don't get Adult Swim, so I don't know dick about ATHF, Archer, or any of the newer subversive cartoons.
Have a kid and watch enough Caillou and you might just swear off of animation as a medium, period.

If a fella doesn't enjoy La Maison Derrière, it's probably best for them, and society at large, if they are murdered in their sleep.

edit: It's called 'Bart After Dark'.

hey shirtless, do yourself a favor and go watch brass eye sometime. if i'm not mistaken all of the episodes are on youtube and this is a great place to start.

i'm not going to even bother asking CH if he's heard of brass eye because i don't think it's possible to exist in a world where Curious Hair isn't up on the works of chris morris (call it a hunch).
