If you borrow a I-pass, do you have to register your car on their account?

I have registered out of town family cars to my account so they can blow the tolls without the transponders. Gets picked up in the system and is debited to my account two weeks later.

Thanks Turd, (first time I have ever typed that and meant it nicely) I will have the transponder but just wanted to make sure that I did what I was supposed to do.

WELL SINCE DDM SHINED THE SINISIGNAL....

i will always remember my old boss at the library telling me of the i-pass "well it wasn't designed for people like you...."

clearly she meant broke-ass druggies, but i responded "yeah it's not for people like me who like the concept of paying for a service when i use/receive it as opposed to giving something like 200 the times of a value of a service up front to cover the next 100 times i use it, even if they wanna stick me with double the cost cuz these greedy assholes who said the tolls will be gone by the 80s decided they wanna stick everyone for 50-100 a pop instead of 50 cents a pop"

Really? Is that a semi-recent thing? In the past before I ever thought of having one I'd borrow someone else's, and conversely I've loaned mine out a handful of times ... nary a consequence at any point. Kinda figured money's money. Not saying you're wrong, just is news to me is all.

IIRC, if the electronic reading of the i-pass box fails in any way shape or form (example: you don't have an i-pass) they take a picture of your car and then check to see if it's in the system as having an i-pass, that way they dont send you the $$$fine where you get that grainy little picture of yourself whizzing by all care free.

hell, i've got a friend whose car is "in the system" and she doesnt even have an i-pass box in her car but she'll zip right through every i-pass thing without a care in the world cuz "they'll take a picture and see that i'm in the system"

so i reckon by doing the formal notice you're just setting yourself up to be covered from getting one of those tickets if anything gets fucked up.

Not required, but a good idea in the event the tool booth fails to read the device.

Oh, that I can certainly get behind. I was just dubious that the state gave a bloody hell how they got the money, just that they did.

Like the Skyway? Oh my god it drives me fucking nuts. And the Skyway wont open the gate until it dings it (remember, private is always better) so I just sit there waving that stupid box around like an idiot. There's only like 1 cash lane and its clogged with people from Michigan and Ohio.

Fuck the Skyway.

This. I've used mine in different cars a few times and nothing happens outside of the toll getting charged. Its not a habitual thing. If I had to guess, I would say I have used my IPass in someone else's car maybe about 15 times over the 10 years I have had one, but like Tiny nothing has ever happened to me.

I have my motorcycle registered and never carry the pass anymore. Before that, I got pretty skilled at pulling it out of my pocket at 80 mph.

I put a rental car on my I-Pass once and they promptly hit me up for like $15 in toll charges from a past renter.

Huge chore to get them removed.

Fuck the Skyway.

I've never had a problem with the pass readers on either the Skyway or the Indiana Toll Road. However, for some reason the people who don't have the pass have no idea which lanes to use at those booths. EVERY TIME I go through there at least one of and usually multiple of the E-ZPass lanes are blocked with someone waiting for the attendant to come over, or even worse, trying to back up.

As long as it registers it isn't going to matter. But if something goes wrong, and it somehow doesn't charge the account and they grab the plate, you'll get a fine. As long as you register it to the vehicle, you don't even need it in the car as Turd says above.

I'm sure it has something to do with my car being as low to the ground as it is. When the top's down I just pick up the box, wave it up and it goes, but with the top up FUCK IT NOT HAPPENING.

And yes, the Ontario license plates coming at you in reverse from the I-Pass lanes are wonderful at keeping you on your toes.

I am really surprised someone has not made a jammer or duplicator that lets people just go through yet. Like the old home made cable/on tv boxes.

We sent our old one in for replacement and got a new one in just a few days. Just registered my daughter's car for her trip to WI this past Monday, if you can use the quote function here, it should be no problem for you :)

Pfft its easy to beat ipass. Here's the simplest way to do it in 3 easy steps:

1) find someone who has an ipass in their car
2) steal their car
3) drive thru the ipass in their car

(STEAK DINNER) BOOM! At little to no cost to yourself and taking on only a little risk you've successfully stick it to the man and saved a couple bucks. At some point you might go "oh shit now i've got this stolen car and idk what to do with it" so just PM me and i'll make a couple calls and prolly figure out somewhere you could leave it and end up with a few bucks minus my $20ish convenience charge. Try to avoid GMs cuz that OnStar is a mothetfucker.

yeah im not sure how you would beat ipass. only way would be to find a same year make model color of your car, look inside and see if they have an ipass, and then take a pic of their license plate and make a high quality replica. attach to your car and go through ipass without a card thing. they will trace you by the license plate and charge the other guys account. he prob wont even notice because nobody pays attention to their account details. just wear sunglasses because they get you coming and going....
