I see a lot of bashing on here of the poor "Guy Talk" on the Speigs & Goff Show among others. I agree with what I'm reading but what would you guys talk about on the radio if given the chance? I guess for me it would be being a dad & husband, fast food, sex and pop culture. Hey,What else is there? ![]() |

On WSCR? Sports #1. Sports #2. Sports #3. I like guy talk, but not when it's petty and contrived. I always like when Mac talked about music, food/grilling, kids, etc. It seemed genuine and was mildly entertaining. Goff's life couldn't be more boring, so I suggest he sticks to sports. |

good dolphin wrote: I'd open up the phone lines and kick my feet up for four hours Which is how the station was made, now the hosts complain that they dont get as many calls anymore due to texts....thats what they say. For all the North bashing, the guy tried all the time to do something, he tried contests, listener involvement, etc. That element of the station is almost gone, a big part of that is that the hosts dont like each other, even some on the same show. I expect a new body to come in and make someone responsible for the poor efforts I listen to. Jimmy, I often make suggestions, as I agree just ripping them should come with some improvements. |

I have no idea either. I have to think though that someone one day at CBS will come into the Score office and say it really isn't a good idea to berate, yell and otherwise beat down the customers they are trying to attract. |

The people who use the call in here don't Call in much anymore. Waddle and Sylvie still take some and it's usually what makes me laugh the most. The score probably doesn't take the many but that's because they're assholes . |

Screening calls and determination of who gets on the air and what the topic is, thats the issue. Having a 22 year old interna from Columbia determining who gets on the air because they think the 3 seconds of the call is good, nope... I am actually OK with hanging up on guys, if they go unscreened and the guy is a little crazy...maybe wants to get political, religous, etc...OK, dump the call, but the taking of the old guy racist calls and then letting Bernstein bitch at him is over. However, a NEW guy will have no idea what the Score was and how it was made, he will read RADIO TODAY and pay for some Wacky Bits and how things Should be done, not realizing the Score was the founding father of Sports talk. |

If you want to know what the core listener really wants it's not difficult. All you have to do is read this site. The core should be sports but conversations naturally grow from there. You have to have hosts that actually know something and want to know more rather than just being enamored with the sound of their own fucking voices. |

I wouldn't let any callers wait on hold for more than 15 minutes. Get fans on the air and let them have their say. Hosts have plenty of opportunities and time to talk. Respect fans' time & opinions - within reason, of course. |

Hang up on them. Don't need to scream at them for 10 minutes telling them they are stupid. |

if i had a radio show it sure as hell wouldnt be sports 100% of the time... all sports talk is just boring and uninteresting to me. there needs to be a mix of sports talk and interesting life talk |

Quote: In an interview Tuesday, Cavanah said he was looking forward to working with all of the Chicago group’s stations to increase ratings and drive revenue. “I’m very excited to be working alongside Tim Pohlman,” he said. “The culture is changing in the building, and I’m really excited to be part of that.” AKA Baldy McBossy ![]() |

But we need to know what everyone did last night at the crib, what they ate, what they watched, who they talked to!!!!! because nothing is more riveting than a guy telling you about his evening "CHILLING AT THE CRIB" |

The golden age hosts didn't let callers babble forever. What they did do is make the bad caller a bit with things like "See Ya" or Jimmi Hendricks music...but that kind of stuff takes production, even if minimal. |

Being funny/interesting isnt something that can be learned. You either are or you arent. Les Grobstein and Laurence make up for that with preparation and professionalism. Spiegel kinda prepares. Goff seemingly thinks he can be Mac interesting with Bernstein level prep. It doesnt work. Bernstein makes up for not being funny with a combo of being informed and smarter than callers. Boers is funny. Jason needs to find something |

As much as Murph grated on some people, he tried to prepare bits that would get the listener motivated to contribute (Thin Books, Sports Spurts, I Predict, etc.). |

The worst part of the Bernstein Tree is the idea that any dope can stroll into the studio on zero prep and put out a compelling show. Not only can the descendants not do it, half the time Dan himself can't do it. |

Be knowledgeable about sports if sports is your entity. It's cool to try and be entertaining, but it cannot decidedly override your desire to talk sports. If sports is on the marquee, then sports it is. In attempting to be more entertaining and less sportsy, you find that hosts end up accomplishing neither. Unless you have lived an interesting life, then people aren't going to be interested. Current score hosts don't really seem like they have lived lives that would interest most people. |

Mully and Hanley are friendly and truly the voice of the fan. What is Goff or Speigel's hook or niche? |

Didn't we establish years ago that for all his big talk, Goff is just a big dork at heart who watches pathological amounts of sports? |

You can't walk in unprepared, turn on a mic, and have callers be your show. It never worked that way. And with the increase of texts and tweets, that it is even more so the case now. |
