Color me impressed with another unique look at Horror movie myth a la Scream. They hit a fine balance between laughs and scream. The only thing I would say is that the "twist" seems a bit anti-climactic and to some extent wasn't as big of a twist (since its hinted at strongly)... but much of the humor comes from revealing the "twist" in a humorous way.

Don't get me wrong, the writing is pretty trite... but the humor partly plays of the trite-ness (is that even a word?). The finale is a bit ho hum, but I give kudos to the props guy for the coolest bong/transformer I have ever seen.

Wouldn't expect less from Joss Weldon.

Joss Whedon! I didn't know that. I could tell. A little bit of Buffy-type humor. Even a little Firefly. He was perfect for this type of movie.

Joss Whedon and Bradley Whitford are each involved...

...the fact that I haven't seen this yet has me questioning what the hell I've been doing with my life the last couple weeks.

Easily one of the most insane endings of a movie I've seen in awhile. Was very fun trying to point out all the horror movie references as they came up...the nightmare boxes RULED.

There are very few guys that can manage the fine line between humor and horror/action/sci-fi. Joss is one of those guys. I wouldn't say he's perfect, but certainly entertaining. The concept is entertaining... but there are moments of trite stereotypes when you have to remind yourself, "Oh yeah, that's an homage... or oh yeah, that's playing up to the stereotype."

ho boy...i knew i'd be in the minority here. well, this'll go in the category of "everybody was a fan of it but me" a la "inception", "super 8", and "the social network" but i fucking hated this movie from top to bottom.

first, the characters. and don't give me "it was meant to be that way". no, you were meant to find the stoner amusing. i wanted him dead within the first 10 minutes of the film. the insanely beautiful but so incredibly smart chick...keep it.

even the explanations of how they dumbed down the characters was lame and amateurish.

the whole movie suffered from cynicism and being such a fan of itself. this wasn't self-aware. it was self-congratulatory. and, sorry, joss whedon, you're not a god. you've got your legion of fans, and you've made some classic stuff. this was about as insufferable a script as i've had to suffer through in a while.

the movie was so damn predictable, so self serving, so in love with how clever it was to throw in movie references that only horror fans will get--but here's the key guys: make your own fucking movie entertaining. don't fill it with stock archetypes even if that's your point. because your lab guys weren't funny, either.

i could just see the pony tailed horn rimmed glasses dude with the "buffy" tee crying his ass off laughing at the "merman" shit. good god.

i haven't wanted to walk out of a movie so much in years. but i was really ready to a few times.

so, if you can't tell, i'm a tad disappointed. about 20 minutes into the film, all i kept saying to myself was "yeah, i get it." i get it, joss. i get that you think so highly of yourself that you think you can re-invent the genre by tearing it down and trying to make fun of it. but how about this: HAVE fun with it. does everything have to be so damn cutesy with you? the "i learned it from you" scene? please.

well, pat yourself on the back a little more because i'm sure this will be a hit. but i hope i never have to come across this shitty excuse for a horror comedy again. this made "hatchet" look like a masterpiece. and at least that movie DID have fun with itself.

:D out of :D :D :D :D

Joss Whedon is a genius who has never written anything that wasn't awesome and ground-breaking.

Just ask him.

While I agree Z has fallen off his game a little in the last year, but he is still rather entertaining.

Didn't see the sentence that way, but pretty funny now that you point it out...

I'll be non-apologetic about thinking that was very funny.
