They were great until they got wrapped up in the Book of Mormon stuff. You can tell they mailed it in on more than a few occasions. Now they have reduced the season to a single 8 or 10 episode run so hopefully that improves their focus and the product.

They perfected their style with seasons 3-6, it was never the same after that. The show just got more ridiculous after that. I also don't agree with the first two seasons being mostly toilet humor. The drawings were crude but the writing was very good.

That's what I liked about it. Not every episode was a parody of current pop culture. They had normal episodes about the boys and Chef and their antics. Conjoined Fetus Lady was a brilliant episode and as far as I know it had nothing to do with satirizing current pop culture. Trey and Matt satirizing Honey Boo Boo does absolutely nothing for me, she will be forgotten in 6 months.

Not every great SP episode had to be about "something". That being said, it I do agree that the middle years are some of the best. The one drawback is everything has to be a shot @ Hollywood. Sometimes it doesn't seem "smart", just "smarmy". For every Tom Cruise in the closet, there seems to be a Kanye & fish sticks.

Early on they went after the rednecks. If it went on too much longer, that probably would've gotten old, too. I guess they just use whatever they are surrounded by as inspiration. But the show seemed to be a little more about stories & human relations then. Now it's "who are they going to shit on this week?" Some of their best later year episodes were some of their more original stuff. Butters very own episode, Imaginationland, all good stuff.
