Could the home of "American Idol", "The Simpsons", "Bones", the NFL, MLB, NASCAR & UFC be only available on cable in the near future? Believe it or not, FOX might do just that if a controversial Internet company doesn't stop retransmitting its shows without permission.

FOX Chief Operating Officer Chase Carey has threatened to pull the plug on FOX as we know it and serve only pay-TV customers to protect the billions spent annually on programs, ad revenue & hard-won fees from pay-TV providers, according to what he told TV executives in Las Vegas today.

A U.S. Appeals Court last week rejected the broadcasters' plea to stop a company called Aereo from starting up. Aereo happens to be a new company from ex-FOX CEO Barry Diller. It's not just FOX programming that could be affected. CBS, NBC & ABC might follow FOX's lead, and it could potentially end the way over the air TV has been viewed since "The Honeymooners" first aired in the 1950s.

Carey offered some comments in regards to the Aereo issue and also has support from another broadcast network. That info can be found here:

This is what FOX gets for canceling Human Target.

Streaming is the way of the future. Embrace it or perish.

Yeah....for better or worse.

Plenty of anti-consumer practices to come, I'm sure.

yeah if you're streaming a network and watching their commercials what's the big deal? that whatever ratings system is in place doesn't count the viewership which they can use to pump up the ad rates? beyond that it's hard to see the fundamental issue other than big ole ancient companies saying "FUCK YOU PEASANT DO WHAT WE SAY"
