The Great Gatsby is a terrific book. (It's no Fahrenheit 451, though, right? lol canon) This movie appears to be Moulin Rouge! but with bootlegging.

They arent marketing it correctly. They're assuming the demo they want knows the Book.

They need to sell the sex, lying, and cheating that goes on.

It was surprisingly okay. Very Moulin Rougey at times for sure. Clearly the same direction and used a lot of the same tricks he used in that film.

Run time is long. Felt like they could have dropped 10-15 minutes of it and still been true enough to the book.

Movie didn't do a good job touching on the main theme of the book in the change in American culture after WWI/Roaring 20's etc that eventually lead to the Great Depression. Really focused more just on the love affairs etc.

I was entertained, happy I saw it. Don't know if i'd see it again.

The guy who reviewed it on Nick DiGilio's show said he thought the director probably had never read the book.

Weird comment since he didn't write the script. People appreciate books/movies for different reasons. The 20's were a really fascinating time in American History, really wished they focused more on the differences between West and East Egg, NYC and the railyards etc and what it all meant. If you didn't read the book the symbolism of it would have been more or less lost.

I don't think he was specifically referencing the script, but more of the overall visual aspects of the film. What the reviewer was saying that the movie failed to capture the essence of the book.
