It's already common knowledge that Jimmy Fallon will succeed Jay Leno as new host of "The Tonight Show" starting next year, coinciding with the show relocating from Burbank, CA to New York. With Fallon taking over as "Tonight Show" host, NBC has named another guy with "Saturday Night Live" ties to replace him on "Late Night" in the New Year, too.

He is Seth Meyers, who has been an "SNL" cast member for 12 years, head writer on the venerable sketch comedy show for 8 of those years & anchor of the news spoof "Weekend Update" the last 7 years. That's the word from NBC Entertainment President Bob Greenblatt.

"We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation," Greenblatt said in a statement. "His years at 'SNL's Weekend Update' desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the Late Night franchise." Meyers' boss, "SNL" & "Late Night" executive producer Lorne Michaels added, "Since 1982, there have been three Late Night hosts, starting with David Letterman and Seth couldn't be in better company."

In an appearance this morning on NBC News' "Today Show" to talk about his promotion, Meyers actually owed a debt of gratitude towards Fallon for making the transition possible.

While there have been rumors about Meyers taking over "Late Night" since Fallon was officially named to replace Leno on "The Tonight Show", this isn't the first time that Seth's name has surfaced to host such a show. Meyers said if "SNL" fans are lucky, we may see Fallon pop up on "Late Night" and vice versa on "The Tonight Show". Meyers thinks it would be "fun to cameo" if the two hosts appeared on each other's shows starting next year.

I wasn't here when it was officially revealed. Besides, there was nothing along these lines posted.

Who? Frankie Muniz from "Malcolm in the Middle"? As for those Kardashians, not to stir the pot or anything like that, but would you believe their mom's getting a talk show this summer?

Before the "Late Night" gig came to fruition, would you believe Seth Meyers was mentioned for the "Live" gig alongside Kelly Ripa before "FOX NFL Sunday" analyst Michael Strahan got the job replacing Regis Philbin?

At least Shark is an informative poster, unlike many of the other posters here.

Does anyone remember how Conan failed on the Tonight Show and it was unknown as to whether Fallon could actually handle hosting Conan's old show? I think David Letterman should get replaced too. I've never found him funny, but now he's just this old guy hanging on to the end of his lucrative career.

If I remember correctly, Conan O'Brien took over for Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show", while Leno hosted that 9P hour in primetime. I don't think ratings were that good either way. NBC fixed what wasn't broken and it backfired miserably.

As for David Letterman, you are correct in your observation. He looks old now on "The Late Show", and not just following his recent bypass surgery either.

I've never posted a thread about gas stations. I told you guys about Sears Outlet giving away free clothes every Tuesday and no one seemed to care even though they offered free clothes for more than 30 weeks.

NBC had made a deal that they would give Conan The Tonight Show, but they still had Jay around. Conan moved to LA and started the show there, but it didn't go so well for Conan. NBC wanted to put Leno back in his old time slot and let Conan keep The Tonight Show name, but move him back to his old time of 12:35 on the East and West coast, which would actually mean his show would start the following day. Conan decided to walk and he got paid and then joined TBS. I think Conan is a funny host, but his material may be a little too immature for some of the older demographic. In my opinion the younger demographic of 30 and under is largely ignored because there are more baby boomers and other larger demographics. The fact that they are handing Jimmy Fallon The Tonight Show is very surprising to me.

I thought there was talk about Jay Leno getting the 10:35P (CT) time slot back and pushing Conan O'Brien back to 11:05P, not 11:35P (CT) weeknights, and that Conan turned it down.

Jimmy Fallon might have to change his name to Jimmy Failin'. #EagloJeffing

NBC can't possibly think they're going to hold on to their "older" audience when Jimmy F. is constantly referring to Twitter, Instagram & anything else created after the Clinton Administration was in office. Unless they're thinking "Fuck off, Granny", they're taking a bit of a gamble.

Another tame snarky white bland Lorne Michaels buttboy. Myers has a face I not only want to punch but also want to flay, burn, and atomize Way to go out on a limb, NBC. His first guest is going to be Amy Poehler, whose interview will no doubt become a mutual stroke fest.

His weekend updates this season have been pretty weak so I have no idea what he is going to do with his own show.

I don't think Seth Meyers will be all that bad. I think he'll actually be an improvement over Jimmy Fallon, who I've never been a fan of dating all the way back to when he was also on "Saturday Night Live" in the early 2000s. I've found Fallon to be nails on a chalkboard annoying, even in those Capital One commercials starring that little baby girl who had said "no" to "50% More Cash" until recently.
