Pretty interesting article. I agree with almost all of it. I still think Dark Knight Rises is better while Avengers is more fun and enjoyable

I have actively avoided such articles because I find the comparison pointless...at least to myself.

Both were awesome movies in their own right, and very different types of awesome at that.

I'm really shocked to see no one discussing the deep themes that are present in this movie. The class warfare is right up Midget's alley, but he probably hasn't had a chance to see the film.

I'll throw out a few just to see what people think:

-the analogy of Miranda to Jesus Christ. I find it hard to believe that it was mere coincidence that her final words were "my father's work is complete" then she bowed her head and took her last breath. Seems to have come directly from the bible. She also rose from the hell and her father's work was to usher in a new era. I'm not sure what the writer was trying to say with the analogy. It might have been a comment on religion as the new era she told the people she was ushering in was actually a fraud when she really intended to destroy.

-class warfare- the police are the only thing keeping the lower class from rising up against the rich. Once the police are locked away the poor will naturally rise against their oppressor. Communist ideology. I wonder if the gun and jesus loving people's of this country would be flocking to the theater's if they considered these first two points.

-sociology of the poor including rehabilitation of criminals- the old batman is a pure law and order type. Punish the wrongdoers physically and lock them up in prison forever, even using unjust laws. Alfred helps to define the new attitude of Bruce Wayne when he tells him Gotham no longer needs Batman, they need Bruce Wayne and his resources to pull them out of their troubles.

-It seemed to me that the writer/director wanted to show Bane's reolution to be similar to the French Revolution with dragging the upper class out of their homes and before kangaroo courts where their guilt was presumed and the court was convened only to sentence. Even further, Commissioner Gordon reads from A Tale of Two Cities as his eulogy to Bruce. Like A Tale of Two Cities the Batman dies so that Bruce may live.

-There is something going on there with the Miranda and Catwomen but I haven't thought about it enough. Miranda pretends to want to save the world but then tries to blow it up. Catwomen wants to tear down society but ultimately saves it. This one needs a little more fleshing out.

Anyway, this movie was chock full of deep and complex themes. There was almost too much stuffed into three hours. I admit that I haven't scoured the internet for discussion but I haven't read reviews that really address what is ultimately an important artistic film

just to show that I'm not all Bernstien on this thing, looking at things much more deeply than the cretins of the world...when Bruce returns to his home after being bankrupted he and Miranda get into the home and out of the rain. Her shirt was clinging tight to her. My young son turned to me and said "that woman has fat boobs". Like father, like son, because I was thinking the exact same thing.

People have been talking about the political topics on the web, but they simplified and boiled it down to an attack on the occupy movement. Nolan came out and said this had nothing to do directly with the occupy movement as they started writing prior to it. I like the cut of your gib.

You've hit two things that could have increased my liking of this movie-Catwomen instead of just one Catwoman, and more "fleshing out" of said Catwomen.

Can never have too many catwomen.

You make some good observations, GD. And so did your son. :P

Thanks for the link and its seemingly endless sublinks. I'm glad others have recognized the depth (some to a crazy extent). I have not seen anyone else pick up on the christian theme that I thought was fairly obvious.

Can Tom Hardy not act? He has few lines in Inception. Does not speak much in warrior. As Bane stupid sounding thing. Lawless didn't say much either. Just interested because I think I mostly like him but he is pretty typecast. Fucking Warrior. Just awesome. Give me a drunk Nick Nolte and I can believe it everytime.

Yep.

This was a great movie. I'll still watch it whenever it pops up on HBO.

No, it's kind of a mess. It's ludicrous and meandering with many plot holes.

You're complaining that a super-hero movie is ludicrous and has plot holes?
