You'd never see the chicken hawks of today even consider it.

This show is depressing me, actually. We were never perfect. But God, are we awful now...

I was thinking the same. Interesting that both of them would be sadden by the loss, but so proud that their son died protecting the country. I doubt many if any politicians today would feel similar. Definitely a sense of something we've lost as a country; to put the needs of the country before one's own.

Plan to fire up episode 1, possibly 2, today. Looking forward to it. I just listened to Dan Carlin's Hardcore History on the Spanish-American War so I'm "in the zone" as the kids say.

OMG you do look like him!

So badass.

That's my favorite TR story! There's a pic floating around cyberspace that shows TR riding a moose across a river, with a you'll never be as badass theme. Maybe one of you more computer literate gents can find it and post it. It's pretty funny.

I'm curious as to how Republicans view TR. On the one hand he was the archetypal Tough-Talking Strong Daddy to which they are deeply attracted, yet on the other hand he was a Big Government Libtard who basically invented many of the regulatory agencies that prevent them from being successful in life. Must be difficult to reconcile.

Reagan raised taxes 11 times, and he's still getting blown today. I'm sure they love TR too.

That was when our country was more worthy to fight for... Leash makes a good point too. We were never perfect but a generation of young men gladly lined up to go fight for our country in WWII. That was spurned on by an attack on a military base on an island most of the country knew nothing about.

Fast forward 60 years and after an attack on our capital and our largest city we came together for a month, the government shit on the constitution, we all shrugged and they had to call out National Guard members to go fight two wars.

Governments always shit on the constitution in times of war, Henry. And did you expect young men to flock to their local recruitment offices to fight in Afghanistan or Iraq when 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were citizens of Saudi Arabia?

I've read/watched/listened to numerous accounts of the events of this time. But, I guess I never truly understood that FDR was completely unable to walk right from the beginning of his Presidency.

I always thought he was somewhat able until those last few years. Pretty fascinating the hoops they jumped through to perpetuate that illusion.

Up through about half of this and it's pretty good.

FDR had kind of a gun show going on from some of those pictures of him working out in the pool in the 1920s.

He should have just kicked Hitler's ass hand-to-hand.

Finally getting around to this. We watched the first episode last night and it was very well done.

I really enjoyed it. Binge watched the series over the weekend.

I got a newly-found respect for Eleanor Roosevelt - really had no idea how involved she was on the world stage.

Also, some really interesting personal intrigues among FDR and ER and their circle of associates. It made me think Clinton must have wished he was Prez 50 years earlier.
