I'm a little slow in seeing movies that really don't interest me when they come out, but I've heard and read good things about them - and it's a matter of time 'til I get to see 'em.

I just checked out Requiem for a Dream last night.

My wife said we should watch it with our two oldest kids (12 and 14) to show them why they shouldn't do drugs. I told her, we should probably check it out first since it was rated NC17. Good call on my part.

I don't think my daughter would have enjoyed two whores bouncing asses together connected by a double sided dildo. My son may have enjoyed it.

A tragic and chilling movie. I don't know what else could be said. Strong stuff.

Haven't seen it in a couple years, but wow, what a film.
Did you see it on cable, or on DVD?
There are some great extra features on DVD. Chris MacDonald is awesome.

I believe this was an Aronofsky film, Ellen Burstein's role was heartbreaking.
Jennifer Connelly is top 10 all time. I also think this was based on a true story.

Got it on DVD, if my 2 year old would ever stay asleep in her own bed,
my wife and I should revisit it.

If fact-based fiction met real-life fact, there would probably be no 30 Seconds To Mars.
Leto wouldn't be able to fake-play guitar.

This movie should be shown to all kids in school. I would be willing to bet hard-drug use would drop. Fuck that "Red Ribbon Week" bullshit.

I never saw the rated R version, but the NC17 part where Jennifer Connolly has a double sided dildo lubed up and shove up into her from behind and then she and another (I assume) female drug addict are shoved together and then bounce asses together - might just be a little much for a high school class.

I picture that scene being very similar to many CBOT Christmas parties.

A young Chus snapped off many wristers to Jennifer Connelly.

I set the DVR to record this. I saw it the other day but it was like half over and didn't want to
jump in. I haven't seen it since it first came out and was all controversial.

sorry i've gotta interrupt the lovefest, but i've gotta chime in about the movie i've affectionately known as "requiem for a bad movie about heroin" since i've saw it.

first AND FOREMOST when you do heroin your eyes don't dilate. that's cocaine or acid generally speaking, and i think aaronofsky's artistic vision didn't want this to be a heroin movie as much as it applied to everything about drugs... i mean SPOILERS

SPOILERS. fuck off NOW if you actually want to watch this dredge

ok then, i mean the whole annoying as shit subplot about the bored mom who "did everything right" and yet still ended up all alone and zonked out on pharmies was this movie's attempt to try and make it seem like it wasn't necessarily the crazy kids' fault, look at the mom.... she was just desperate cuz she was lonely and the whole better living through tv/chemistry thing was just.... ugh. comeon dude. you made pi at one point and that's a movie for people who have to drill a fucking hole in their head in order to find the bliss of not knowing things, and then you turn around and give us this?

i gotta remind myself that this guy gets to nail rachel weisz when i think about the fate of those three kids: the white guy keeps shooting up in the same vein until he develops an arm crater and eventually loses said arm, you throw the black kid in jail cuz i mean hey now hes black and thats just what do you with black kids, and then the only part i agreed with was that the girl turned into a total whore and was thusly able to keep on going. you get mileage out of that in "the scene" to the point it's like you can behold the arby's roast beef looking vagina in front of you and go "OOH WHAT'S THAT NES MAX THUMBPAD LOOKING THING ON ONE OF THE SLICES?!?!?" --- "that's my clitoris" ---- yeah. ooooh yeah. and that route definitely works...

but it still felt like they all had to end up in some bad fate because of the hamfisted morality of the movie. i mean while i'm all for watching jared leto suffer real imagined or otherwise, still, if you've ever spent a good 30-45mins with someone who's committed to the cause as they mutilate ~15 places on their body to find a vein.... you realize how fucking absurd it is that the guy would keep blowing up the same vein in his arm until his damn arm gets cut off. and the wayans brother was doing ok but then at the end it's like "oh yeah we gotta put him in jail because he's black and that happens to black kids with drugs" and it's just.... whatever. it's not a movie for me... it's a movie for people who want their stereotypes and opinions based in conjecture proven by a tragically hip followup to a much better movie (pi)

i mean if you're going to preach to me.... i just hope you at least consult with someone who lived it.

You know who's hot is Ellen Burstyn. Saw her at a Borders bookstore (R.I.P.) setting up for a book signing maybe 5 years ago and she was a stunningly beautiful old lady. Not bad when she was young either.

Hubert Selby did live it.
I thought the most annoying thing about it was Wayans, constantly calling Harry "Jim".
