Lack of versatility was the main reason I didn't like her. Her characters in Secret Word, "Don't Make Me Sing", and another that I can't think of right now were essentially the same person -- same clueless persona, mannerisms, and expressions.

Aside from that, I just don't think she's funny. The Gilly and Gar and Kat skits were bad.

I think Cheri Oteri was a much more versatile performer. Wiig is almost as bad as Molly Shannon, but not quite as physically repugnant.

One of the books I am currently reading is Live From New York: The Complete, Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live as Told by Its Stars, Writers, and Guests. It's updated to 2013. Same guys did the ESPN book. Interesting stories and tidbits about the various personalities.

I'm about halfway done and have discerned some two immutable truths:

Everyone hates Chevy Chase
Joe Piscopo is a Sinatra-obsessed weirdo

I know why I don't watch and haven't watched since Eddie Murphy left. It hasn't been consistently funny/witty/edgy in 35 years.

I'm amazed when I read about how so many of you all still watch. I make a note to watch based on some recommendations, but PAC-12 or even HBCU football on ESPNU wins out every time.

Agreed.

Bill Hader is one of my favorite SNL people of recent memory. I'm concerned his career won't really go anywhere though now that he is gone.

he left and the best he could do was doing t-mobile commercials and starring ina kristen wiig movie... i also liked him on the show

Pretty sure she was lip syncing that. I thought her music was pretty awful.
In my opinion, it was actually the opposite. She didn't even use the helper track that many other artists use and they didn't even pump up the instrumentals to cover for it.

Most rappers sound like garbage on SNL for some reason. Even Kanye sounded weird.

Maybe you are right. I made kind of a snap judgement that there was no way she should sound that
clear with all the dancing around. I didn't listen to more than 60 seconds of it.

to me it sounded so clear and sounded like it came from a studio.... I felt it was one of the most obvious lip syncing performances of recent memory

Of course this is all subjective, but I always thought she was easy on the eyes.

You can't listen to RR.

and andrew dice clay was an asshole too. that book is one of my favorites. i loved the concept and execution. it's like reading a transcript of an A&E Biography. bill murray's gilda story is very cool.

Think so huh?

Consider this. I've watched or listened to parts of every Illini football game this season. And hoped they'd win. Haven't felt this way in over 25 years.

Speaking of Jay Mohr, his show is switching to 2-5 CST this coming Monday.

Now I can listen to Rome 11-2, then Mohr both in real time.

Anybody watch this last weekend with Chris Rock as host and Prince as musical guest? I
was a little disappointed in the sketches and the Prince performance was quite a bit different
than I expected. He is talented as hell but I thought the music was pretty odd.

It was horrible. I've never seen them screw up a sketch that bad (and not in a funny way) like they did with that Anniversary couple bit.

The only memorable thing was his monologue which was pretty decent. All the sketches sucked.

What was that sketch even about? There weren't any jokes, just two people yelling at each other.

I'm not sure. They screwed it up so bad it was impossible to tell.

At one point, the woman walked out of the room when it was her turn to say a line then had to walk back in and still didn't know what to do.

That was a very weird situation to watch unfold. Woody Harrelson with Kendrick Lamar in 2 weeks has potential.

 I thought I spaced out while I was watching it and rewound it to see if I missed something. I don't know what happened there, she must have completely lost track of what was going on.

Sasheer Zamata is kinda hot.

Pete Davidson is pretty funny.

The polite bank robbers skit was good.

And they followed Harrelson's excellent episode with an absolute dud. Seems like every skit had people blundering their lines.

Take 5 minutes, skim these skits, and call it a week.

I haven't watched it yet, but will probably delete from my DVR as well.

I enjoyed the Baby Boss skit (late in the show), and that's it. FF to that and that alone.

I liked the School House Rock bit as well as the weird school play bit. The Baby Body Boss skit is just ridiculous. IDK how that guy does it so well.
