Comedy sequels rarely work.

Some people will cite The Hangover, but I didn't think either of the first two were that funny. I never saw the third.

i would probably cite "the naked gun" series over any other comedy sequels as pretty much the standard on how you keep a joke going. sequels are always tough...you can't recapture the magic, you just have to build on it. that's why "terminator 2" and "godfather 2" are so well regarded. took a great movie and made it better by building on it.
