"Two and a Half Men" fans fully expected to see Charlie Sheen come back for one last hurrah Thursday night as the show aired for its final time. Sheen, 49, was famously fired after the 2010 season, but has since made nice with the cast and crew.

Producer Chuck Lorre took to his website to explain Sheen's absence.

"I know a lot of you might be disappointed that you didn't get to see Charlie Sheen in tonight's finale," Lorre wrote. "For the record, he was offered a role. Our idea was to have him walk up to the front door in the last scene, ring the doorbell, then turn, look directly into the camera and go off on a maniacal rant about the dangers of drug abuse. He would then explain that these dangers only applied to average people. That he was far from average. He was a ninja warrior from Mars. He was invincible."

He added, "And then we would drop a piano on him. We thought it was funny. He didn't."

Lorre explained what the "Major League" star and acting icon wanted to do in place of the producer's idea.

"Instead, he wanted us to write a heart-warming scene that would set up his return to primetime TV in a new sitcom called 'The Harpers' starring him and Jon Cryer. We thought that was funny too," Lorre continued.

Instead of Sheen, a piano was dropped on Lorre's own head Thursday night, as he made an appearance on his hit show that has been running for more than a decade. They also dropped a piano on a Sheen lookalike.

Did not watch this show in about 4 years but tuned in for the Finale.

It would have been funnier if the psycho girl next door appeared at the door dressed like Sheen.

I have never seen an episode. Sounds like it had a pretty long run.

my dvr has been set to autorecord this show for a loooong time. It was not appointment TV, but a nice 20 minute option throughout the week when I had time. Loved it when Charlie was there....and it was just OK at best with Kutcher. I think the premise with Kutcher had potential, but they put the focus on Allans character and made him extremely gay & over the top. Still had some good one-liners and random hot chicks in various states of undress. The final was weird...but no surprise.

I thought it odd that the entire finale was about Charlie. I thought there would be a joke or two, maybe a cameo. But the entire finale?

The finale was the first episode I have enjoyed in a long time. Disappointing that there was no Charlie appearance, but I kind of expected that. Happy to see they allowed Jake to comeback for a brief appearance. I think this was a episode that Lorre used to take some shots at Charlie. While he have deserved some of them, Charlie did make all these guys lots of money. All of them should probably be sending Charlie a few bonus checks.
