What?

So, as far as constructive information... anyone ever done a calibration?

yep

best way is to get ahold of, or make a calibration disc.

you can download one for free off torrent sites, or just buy one like this- http://www.amazon.com/Monster-ISF-Calib ... B000EEXEIW

they really do work well. they go through various patterns on the screen, and at each one will tell you what you should and shouldnt see. then you adjust accordingly.

you will notice when youre done, some channels/movies/sporting events have better quality than others, and you can notice it because the calibration disc will tune your screen to a 'neutral' position where the feed quality makes a difference. when youre at the store, the tv's are tuned WAY overexposed, so it really doesnt matter what channel they are on because all the settings are blown out (this is to 'wow' the customer apparently)

otherwise you can buy a color meter, but they are like $600 and take time to learn how to use. and the results arent really any different than using the calibration disc.

LOL

"Hey Buddy, want a $600 calibration disc?"

I would be taking that TV back within the next 3 minutes!

Thank you ike. Much obliged. I looked at some of these discs, also the WoW disc had great reviews.

i dont think it really matters what disc you get. they will all get you within 10% of the best your screen can get, and thats plenty accurate for a screen that will never be perfect (consumer tv's).

all they really do anyway is three adjustments that matter- grayscale (brightness), contrast level, and color saturation. sharpness is something that you can do on your own without the disc, and aspect ratio is usually something that cant really be adjusted on hdmi connections.

I didn't get a calibration disc but I found some calibration guide that helped. And yeah, floor models really punch up the backlights. They're all set to "vibrant" or whatever. I tried that on hockey and it made the ice bright blue.

The only thing that's annoying about the TV I bought in March (60" Samsung smart TV) is that I have it set to external speakers and have to manually adjust the speaker knob. I can't just mute the audio signal, I have to get up and turn down/off the speakers.

A good place to start would be going to the setting on your Xbox One...

Display & Sound / Calibrate HDTV

Congrats on actually wanting your HDTV to look the best it can.

An interesting thread about trouble I had with my new TV purchase, Bigfan.
