Common belief that the books are always better than the movies, but of course there are some exceptions.

Field of Dreams
Godfather
The Natural (depends on if you like the happy ending or the sad ending better)

Let's hear some more....

Not so sure on Misery. The book and movie are so totally different. The movie is very well acted and very dramatic. The book is way more gory and dark.

Fight Club
Jurassic Park

I think "The Firm" movie is a lot better than the book.

Not that either of them was some earth-shattering addition to the arts.

I have to wonder if my view on The Shining would change if I read the book. The movie is visual feast. Just sooo fucking good.

The first six books are better, though.

The Virginian. That book is hard to read. The movies sort of sucked, too, but the tv series is pretty awesome.

It's been a while (years) since I've seen the beginning of Field of Dreams.

Why is Farmer Kevin Costner randomly walking through a fairly mature, 2-month+ field of corn with what looks like the handle to a hoe?

We probably watched it together the last time I saw it, as well. My guess is he was checking on his secret sinsemilla garden planted interstitially, thus the voices.

A River Runs Through It with Brad Pitt.

Even though it was written by a Chicago author, the book is not very good.
