Wow. Absolutely terrific.

Superb verbal jousting between Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce throughout.

I'm watching this with Cheap Charlie and The Hawk, so no spoilers, please.

Pretty good discussion of conservative and liberal catholic theology at the present time.

Pryce has always been an underrated actor who, I believe, was a Steppenwolf regular. Hopkins is simply phenomenal. Even as his body begins to fail, the mind is as quick as ever.

I'd be interested in the source material to see if these conversations are authentic or if they are a historical what if.

What I don't think it highlighted in the biography of Bergoglio portion is the incompatibility of Marxism and Catholicism (any religion for that matter). There is some thought, and it really isn't wild conspiracy, that communist leaders intentionally populated seminaries with young people in the early part of the 20th century hoping to destroy the church from within. A pervasive lack of dedication to (the many facets of) a chaste life from priests naturally followed, leading to the loss of credibility of the Church to the people.

I watched it this weekend and it was funny about how the populism of the two popes was portrayed in light of the hand grabbing by the Chinese woman earlier in the week
