Sacha Baron Cohen's humor absolutely relies on the belief that the people he is targeting aren't in on the joke. If he hires a bunch of actors to chant "Throw the Jew down the well" with him, that isn't funny. It's only the belief that he is exposing some anti-Semitic hillbillies that makes it "funny".
I don't know if you've watched the movie or not but it's pretty obvious that in the scenes with Cohen in them that the people in it at a minimum know something isn't right. None of the "normal people" in the movie come off as bad besides one old guy that makes one questionable comment.

I haven't seen it, but what you're pointing out is that it's very tough to keep the joke going once everyone knows who the guy is.

It was still funny, though probably not for you since it was a 1.5 hour long joke at Trump's expense.

All of the people at the cotillion were locals paid to be there to "act". It's kind of like going to Tony and Tina's wedding. You don't have a script or much direction but when you see the fertility dance, you know you aren't looking at something real. That grandpa who said she was worth $500 was playing along with a scene. I can only imagine the stuff I would say just to have fun in the moment with the movie. I probably would have jumped out there and danced with her.

They make it out that these are a bunch of savages with an ugly secret in their community.

Probably a decent comp.

If I was bothered by the music industry or Hollywood's irrational and hypocritical contempt for Republicans, I'd wouldn't be able to watch any type of TV show, movie, or enjoy 70% of music.

I'm ok with that....I'll watch the rest of Borat 2 eventually and I'm sure I'll find it funny. Still....the Republicans are evil is a tired premise for me.

I watched it again. I like it better. The first hour was pretty funny. Then they forced the stupid ending cuz of Covid.

That young lady did a great job as Borat's daughter. She made me laugh the most.

I know a lot of it was fake. He wasn't really fooling everybody that he met. That's OK. It's still about the jokes.
