Will check it out, and report back.

The music is amazing.

It's fantastic.

It's also virtually joyless and nearly everyone you like dies.

Les Miz the musical is fantastic. The film, however, sucks. They filmed the actors singing live versus lip syncing, so the quality is low.

And Russell Crowe can’t carry a tune. Same with Anne Hathaway. I don’t get why people like her.

I’ve enjoyed her acting, but yeah she’s not Halle Berry or anything.

So is there some filmed version of the stage presentation that is better?

I was really impressed with how well they actually sang...since they didn't cast all Broadway or song and dance types.

Don't listen to Heisenberg.

Russell Crowe did a great job...for Russell Crowe.

There is a version simply filming the Broadway production (like the recent Hamilton movie) that is better. They show it on PBS occasionally.

Jet, I’m sorry, but Crowe was terrible. From a critic at the time:

“Russell Crowe’s singing is awful. On a purely technical level, it’s laughable; on an aesthetic level, it’s horrendous. In the Les Mis montage last night at the Oscars, the cast appeared on stage singing the stirring anthem “One Day More” to great effect and I was moved… until Crowe entered and nearly ruined it. It was as if a foghorn had started blowing in the middle of a Sousa march and was as distracting as the cowbell in that classic SNL skit. (http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/ ... t/1374012/) Crowe’s voice at the Oscars had the same effect that it had in the movie: the fourth wall came crumbling down and I was no longer carried away by the moment.“

Back in the day my mom would buy tickets for me to take my new wife to the big musicals thst would swing through Chicago or a play or ballet. Moving to Montana put an end to her attempts to culture me. As going to buy tickets to Don Quioxte this spring but covid our an end to that.

Anyhow, I have watched many of the classic musicals during this whole thing so I should probably a this one to the list.

I agree that Crowe wasn't, isn't and never will be mistaken as a Broadway song and dance guy. He did just fine...i had zero hope of him pulling anything off...so it was better than I expected.

The actress who played Eponine had previously played the same character onstage in London. She stole the movie imho.

For myself, I had not seen the stage production yet, so the movie may have been more acceptable to me.

I would make a point to see it live whenever it returns.

reserve a little hate for Amanda Seyfried's warbling

Also, English people like Borat and Bonham Carter have to understand that its difficult to understand them in their normal accents but damn near impossible when they go cockney

Eddie Redmayne was pretty good at singing but he gives off such a homo vibe with a punchable face that I hate seeing him on the big screen

The 25th anniversary stuff where they have the best of the best perform the singing parts is fun. They cut out the acting entirely.

I saw the book laying around the house and thought I might like to read it but there isn't enough time in one life to read the billion pages of text

Very punchable face.

Turns out he's been married for years. She's cute.

I know he isn't gay, he just gives off that vibe. Meanwhile, the exact opposite is true of Jackman and Effron

This movie is still great stuff.

My 2 1/2 year old daughter calls it, “Dance Party.”
