Been enjoying the old HBO series. After wrapping up Rome I was looking at this one which I have never seen before. I know it is pretty old but wanted to see if people here think it would hold up to a new viewing and worth the time to watch. I honestly don't know the first thing about the series but see that it is ranked as one of the better series of the 21st century. Just didn't want to get into it and find out I would be wasting my time. Thanks.

Never really considered watching it but have entertained the thought recently as well. Instead I'm wrapping up The Wire for the 5th time

The only thing I enjoy about that show is fantasizing about beating the living fuck out of every single character with a crowbar.

Better than a Siskel and Ebert review.

That's part of what made it enjoyable.

these tv shows are like video games to me. i stopped playing them around age 16 because it felt like a waste of time. i can do those when im retired.

whats weird is i always thought i would just buy all these old games when the time comes... will be cheap, and the games will play the same as new.

but theres too many games. new ones get made every year. better ones. by the time im retired i wont even bother with any of these current games

same with these tv shows. a lot of them seem great right now, but in 20 years i doubt very many of them will be watchable. time will tell, but i stopped even trying to write down all these 'good' ones. oh well, at least there will never be a lack of content in my life.

This is correct - all of the characters (some more than others) were so flawed and unlikable it did make me wonder why I enjoyed watching it so much. Brenda and Billy in particular. As a matter of fact, if there was a "most likeable" competition among the characters in that show it might be tough, though I guess maybe Nate would win by default. Maybe Rico.

I hated Nate's fucking guts. Who is Rico? Little Freddy Rodriguez from Chicago? He was cool as a winemaker in Bottle Shock. I don't remember too much about him but I'm sure I hated him too. Keith was likable for about two episodes then he became a douche too.

I started the first episode and got halfway through it during my lunch. I'll give it a few episodes and see what happens.

Stick with it at least until you get to see Ben Foster perform "Froggie Went A-Courtin'".

 not arguing with you at all - definitely a lot of loathsome qualities to this family. Rico was the other undertaker who worked for the family, yes, Freddy.

 Yeah, the dead dad was the most likable character.

Nate started off as more like his dead father, cynical and bemused and not giving two-shits. And then the guitar chick from Say Anything turned him into a sensitive douche. David more tolerable-to-likable as the series went on? been more than a decade

Pfffffffffffbbbbbbbt. Doesn’t even sniff the top ten. It was equal parts cute, corny, and cringeworthy.

The best part of this show was the creative and/or swervy ways the their “customers” would die at the beginning of each episode (the one that starts with the MILFs partying in the limo stands out).

What I took away from this series is that there was no real character development throughout the series, and if there was any, it just made you dislike that character even more (Rico). What you saw with them in the first few episodes was pretty much what you got in the last few. Meh.

I'm just posting here in an effort to get "Rush Limbaugh" and "Six Feet Under" juxtaposed in the view active topics.
