Decent opener. It'll be interesting to see how Sam and Bucky react to the new guy.

Very pleased we get two strong actors to play the heavy parts of their characters.

Very solid first episode.

I thought the first episode was kind of boring but a lot of first episodes have to be because they literally have to make sure you remember who these people were and introduce the new characters.

It's only 6 episodes which seems low.

Good second episode with several interesting and potentially interesting characters introduced, depending on how the series unfolds. I hope there is more about Isaiah Bradley. The girl who played Enfys Nest in Solo: A Star Wars Story is in this, too.

Good enough series so far. I get briefly confused when reading stuff about the episode and I keep seeing Battlestar mentioned and I think, yeah Carl Lumbly (Spoiler guy actor) played Lt. Daniel “Bulldog” Novacek in the Battlestar Galactica reboot, but what does that have to do with this show?

It’s a solid show but it just had one of my biggest pet peeves, teasing actually have some morally grey adversaries for the heroes and just LOL noping the fuck out of it, like in Black Panther. The Flag Smashers are fighting for those left behind by the blip! She really cares about her Nana! Yeah, fuck these guys for hoarding food they aren’t using! It’s a good time to set them as maybe someone you can at least root for against New Cap! Yeah nah, let’s just blow up some innocents and make it clear they suck. It completely stuck out like a sore thumb too. Maybe Marvel will pull a swerve or something hopefully.

Great episode.

Very good series so far.

Zemo is a badass.

Hopefully, they are setting up the Thunderbolts.

Also there’s no way Sam leaves his cell phone on. That’s just poor or lazy writing.

Another series where the bad guys can't shoot straight.

Yeah the John Wick homage with every assassin in Madripoor firing, well, poorly at them was weak. I like how much they’re teasing, even if they don’t follow up on everything yet. I also like the pace, reminds me of the first season of The Mandolorian where they leave you wanting more instead of drawing everything out just a few minutes or a few episodes too long. It’s a fine line because if they don’t stick the landing like, I personally think they didn’t, with Wandavision, it will be easy to 2nd guess and say maybe they should have spent some more time on x y and z.

Due to popular demand there has been a one hour version of Zemo dancing in the club released through Marvel onto YouTube.

You’re welcome.

The casting has been great. Mackie was fine in the first Cap movie but unsurprisingly was way in the background for the rest of them. He’s been solid in the series along with Stan, which isn’t easy because the last 2 episodes they haven’t been as prominent in the story as you’d expect the title characters to be. New Cap has been the best part, the writing and acting have really fleshed him out and created a really believable fall from grace.

It reminds me how annoyed I was with Karli’s characterization last week. Obviously she and New Cap are supposed to have a similar journey with being idealistic do-gooders becoming cynical and slowly lurching into ends justify the means evil. Cap is slowly losing it throughout the episode and you can see it happening from scene to scene until he kills the younglings, I mean ices the dude in cold blood. Hers is a ham-fisted “violence is all they understand!” delivered unconvincing sitting in a car while a building blows up. I mean there’s the usual someone you care about dying scene to spur a character into action, but the Nana whoever dying scene and Battlestar eating it are pretty far apart in the quality scale.

Enthused at seeing how they play the reaction to NuCap in the next episode. While comics Cap certainly made some bold political statements, the MCU Steve Cap really didn't. Making any political statement in 2021 would be even more perilous. "Liberal Hollywood" and all that, but at it's core Disney is a conservative company, which is fine. What gets them in trouble (and this isn't a scenario exclusive to Disney) is when something with one set of values tries to appeal to those with a different set. The whole Rose thing in the sequel trilogy, they vaguely made some supposedly SJW attempt to make her important and the "SJW" side hated it because it was transparent pandering and the "MRA" side hated it because...it was transparent pandering. Will they show some Fox News analogue praising Cap for doing what it takes to fight terrorism or some MSNBC analogue connecting the dots between American interventionism abroad and Cap as a stand in for depicting police brutality at home, or both or neither. Jyn in Rouge One to a lesser degree too, that originally she was a much clearer terrorist that got watered down into just a run of the mill criminal. Thankfully the rest of the movie was good enough to cover that up, but as a character something was missing.

As little credence I give most click-baity articles, I can believe that originally there was a virus storyline to go with all the stealing medicine that they cut out when Covid hit. There does seem to be some missing plot development from it.

I like it. While I wouldn't say it really tore off the band-aid of a lot of controversial themes it's been hinting at it didn't shy away from them either. Isaiah straight up saying the US would never have an African American Cap and no self-respecting AA would ever accept being one was simple and to the point. Was also cool they had WS apologize for he and Steve never considering Sam's race when wanting him to be Cap. It was good writing having Isaiah getting put in jail for saving his squadmates against orders when that's exactly the first big thing MCU CA did and it was a defining heroic moment.

They also did a decent job with NuCap's trial as a way to bring focus to the poor treatment combat veterans often receive when they return home. They couched a little with focusing on just one senator (?) doing the dressing down of Walker, but it's not a leap to see it as institutional.

All in all it continues to be good, so much so it's annoying to think of how much better it might have been if Covid didn't fuck with production. I think there's some scenes where the main actors aren't at the same place and are green screened together.

finished this a couple days ago. Came here to read the thread and was surprised to see such a lack of posts. I thought it was a pretty good series with a crappy villain. Little confused by the ending, is Sharon Carter a bad guy now?
