You can say what you want about James Cameron but the guy delivers. This is an amazing experience in 3D. I saw it at IMAX and it was worth the extra $.

He also does great sequels. This is better than the first one. Much bigger stakes, more emotional investment. It is long, for sure. But unlike a lot of Marvel movies that are just flat out bloated, this does the best with its running time. I never felt bored, never fidgeted, it was all interesting enough.

I'm not sure how well this would transfer to regular TV. When I saw the first "Avatar" on a regular TV I felt like I was watching a video game cut scene.

But if you got an afternoon to spare this holiday season, I highly recommend. This is excellent entertainment.

:D :D :D :D out of :D :D :D :D

Based on the mixed reviews I've seen, I was going to wait for streaming. But your review has me reconsidering. Many reviews I've seen complain that the visuals are great but nothing really happens and by the end, it feels like the whole thing was just a setup for the next movie (which has already been filmed, as well as most of a fourth).

As an aside, I read an article about how several in the cast, including Kate Winslet, learned to hold their breath for an unbelievable amount of time: we're talking 6-7 minutes. Amazingly, some said that they went from 30 seconds to six minutes in a matter of days with the training they were given. And this is not just holding your breath while sitting still, but actually moving around. Apparently it's a matter of continually pushing to longer times and your body eventually turns off (or delays) its panic signal. Of course, they said it was essential that you do it with a trainer present so they can wake you up if you go unconscious.

You gotta be pretty sad and cynical to say nothing happens in this movie. It is predictable like the first one but like I said, I was into it. And yes visually spectacular and worth the time.

Yeah it was an entertaining movie. We went and saw it after the game at the IMAX at The Palms opening weekend. We'd been out all night for 3 nights in a row and after the game we were wiped but we'd bought the tickets on Thursday and my kids wanted to see it. I suggested we just eat the tickets because I thought everyone was going to fall asleep during the movie. The seats were the most comfortable I've ever seen at a theater and I almost nodded off during the previews (Ant Man and Shazam look awful). Once the movie started though everyone was wide awake and nobody fell asleep even though its 3 hours. Its hard to explain why the movie works but it does. The plot is fine but the dialogue is really rough in places. I don't know what's going on there...I had a young guy from India working for me and it sounded like he wrote some of it. I don't know how else to explain it. The visuals were by far better than anything we've seen so far. It really is amazing how they can make the characters look real. It blows the Marvel stuff out of the water its not even close. I think Cameron did a good job pushing the right buttons to keep interest going. Its a long movie but there's a lot going on so it doesn't drag except for maybe the Titanic scene towards the end.

I would ignore the reviews the movie is getting dinged because it doesn't have any gay characters or a girl boss. That's an automatic 20% deduction...

It looks like this movie has some legs taking in 1.2 billion already. This is going to be more like Top Gun than the Marvel movies that drop off a cliff after a couple of weeks. I would recommend seeing it in IMAX 3D.

Its long but it doesn't drag so it goes by fast. I'm not sure what it would be like on a normal screen though. This is a movie where the visuals play a huge part of the experience.

This looks even gayer than the first trailers 5 years ago, couldn't pay me to watch this garbage.

There’s a great avatar ride at Disney. Probably merits a sequel.
