Hands down, Will Smith made this movie as it would otherwise be a smarmy rip off of "28 Days Later", and an unnecessary adaptation of Richard Matheson's classic because it doesn't use his themes at all in the film.

Will Smith deserves an Academy Award nomination for this movie; and ultimately probably won't get one because the movie is a PG-13 horror flick that seems to have been better served as a summer flick.

The CGI is decent, but I still hate the fact that so many filmmakers rely on this as an alternative to costume design, make-up, and real effects.

The sequences of Smith alone are masterful because he is. There are scenes in which he's talking to mannequins as if they're real people, and there's even one he'd like to "hit on" a bit--and in theory, this seems ridiculous and a bit too out there...like you'd never believe even in 10 years much less 3 that a person would try and convince themselves that a mannequin could be real. But Smith pulls it off because he's so endearing and honest. And you start to think--yeah maybe it IS possible to be that lonely and think that way...

There are times, especially in the beginning of the film, where I really got involved emotionally and was in the spirit of the film completely. But toward the end, it just starts to feel like any other "survival of a virus infection" movie and that's unfortunate because it did have potential to at least be a companion film to "28 Days Later".

I still overall enjoyed it, and because of Smith, I'm giving this:

:D :D :D out of :D :D :D :D

Some kudos to the dog Sam, as well--she had more character than I think a human companion could.

I found Grid's review to be more thorough and concise.

Will Smith will never be in the Hall of Fame.

I liked the trailer of CLOVERFIELD better than I AM LEGEND.

I Am Legend looks like a good flick, but I read the ending on the NY Post website. Damn! I'll still go see it.

Cloverfield looks like Godzilla. 900 ft. Blair Witch. The only way to stop the monster is to sign him/it up for Comcast Cable!

I am not a big movie guy and last night I went to see I am legend and now I remember why,

1. Too many people for my liking. It's Sunday night at 9 PM, it's cold, stay at home.

Agree that it was like the culmination of a number of other "end of the World" movies and Cloverfield did look better,

I feel like I was subliminally ad bombarded too.

Did i tell you guys I just bought a new mustang?

Christmas break has started for most colleges. If yo think places were packed this week, wait until all schools are off starting next friday.

If you want a less crowded theatre go to a higher caliber movie.

This is actually one of my favorite books. From what I have read in reviews, the movie does deviate from the themes of the original story somewhat(oh my god Hollywood never does that). I'll skip it.

Nothing like 28 Days Later IMO.

the creatures were almost exactly like the "infected" in "28 days later" and they were also known as "infecteds" like in "28 days later".

the themes were different...i was hoping "i am legend" would have had more of an original idea (like the novel did!?) but will smith more than made up for its predictable and water thin ending.

I liked the movie (I saw it on youtube free... w/ that link that's now dead).

After comments here I rented 28 days/28 weeks. OMFG what a rip off Legacy was.

Well if you liked Legacy see 28 days/weeks.

I know I'm late to the party, but I finally saw this tonight...just noticed it on my Xbox 360, in all of it's HD splendor.

I thought it was a really good movie...scared the shit out of me at times, and broke my heart others...I'm going to hug my cats now...

I just saw it about a month ago.

Didn't think it was that good. Only a few parts that really grabbed my attention.

FWIW, I didn't mind 28 days later. It wasn't hyped up to me and I liked the mood of the film. 28 weeks later wasn't that great... the novelty of "fast zombies" had warn off by that point.
