There was also the item of John Cusack in the lead. As a general rule, he isn't found in bad films.

I think the cancer treatment has killed too many of Ebert's brain cells.

Take a look at Cusack's IMDB page and it is pretty obvious that Ebert's best years as a film critic might be behind him.

Over the past 10 years Ebert has turned into the John Gruden of movie critics.

2012.

The guy hasn't been good since I was watching him in high school summer flicks like The Sure Thing, One Crazy Summer, etc.

I think his tipping off point was when he played in Say Anything and went from the funny and kind of strange looking outsider to young woman heart throb.

Thinking about it more, Ebert has always openly had a boner for the girl in The Sure Thing so maybe he lets Cusak have a pass because he co starred.

I enjoyed both High Fidelity and Pushing Tin.

I have a soft spot for Grosse Point Blank but I think thats the last thing I saw Cusak in that I was at all entertained by. The Ice Harvest was only interesting in so far as I was trying to figure out which shots took place in Waukegan but beyond that was a dull movie.

I should have said consistently good because I liked both High Fidelity and Grosse Point Blank.

I always forget about Grosse Point Blank. Dan Akroyd was really good in that movie.

Grosse Point Blank and Say Anything are very interesting in the way they simultaneously both inhabit and critique the 80s teen-film genre.

The Grifters is also a very good Cusack movie--it's based on an excellent Jim Thompson novel.

Seems Cusack has also thrown his hat into Im going to give my political views every chance I get arena like so many of his fucknut Hollywood cronies, as if anyone gives a shit what he thinks politically. Add in the fact that by all accounts he's a total asshat in RL and notorious frontrunner ( his appearences while the Sox were winning the series and at Hawks games when they became good) make him easy to dislike even if he were making good movies, which he isnt and hasnt in ages. So Ebert, WYC???

I think he wrote Gross Point Blank.
Didn't he?

OK, I liked the grifters as well. I officially recant my first post. I still think he went from an outsider teenage boys could relate to, to the guy girls found unthreateningly handsome after Say Anything.

He also was a front runner with the Bulls. He tried to be street by wearing a 'do rag to the games back in those days.

Cusack is a complete fucking tool. Anyone who has ever seen him strut into a bar in Chicago will agree. What a total asshat! He lurked on the fringes of the Evanston punk scene when I was playing in my first bands. I don't remember him. I do find it amusing that I used to be able to bag chicks that wouldn't even talk to him. Times change. Fuck Lloyd Dobler. I heard he big timed everyone at the Class of '84 ten year reunion.

I'm going to tell you boys my Jeremy Piven story now. Some names may need to be changed to protect those who aren't famous blowhards. My sister went to school with this douche from seventh grade all the way through ETHS. (Aside: His official bio says he played major college football at Drake, yet he never played varsity in high school. Give me a fucking break! A 5'7" 220 lineman??????) He was dating one of her good friends. One day the phone rings at our house and it was some guy calling for my sister. She gets off the phone and she's cracking up. I asked her what was up. She told me it was Jeremy and he and his girlfriend did for the first time. Big Bad Ari Gold was wailing like a bitch. "Jenny is bleeding all over! I don't know what to do!" My sister told him to put the sheets in cold water immediuately.

these are entertaining stories, JORR, but i'm sure there's an actor or someone you like and there's someone that went to high school with them or whatever and has similar stories. most celebrities are jackoffs.

You're probably right, but I think these two are just jerk-offs whether they had become famous or not. I never met Vince Vaughn, but I don't get the impression that he's an asswipe.

I sat a few rows back from Vaughn at a Cubs game and he seemed legit. Posed for a couple pictures with kids. Ended up staying to the very end of a blowout. Walked up the tunnel but stopped to watch Marmol deliver the last pitch. He could easily be a douche but he seemed somewhat normal.
