Haven't seen it but the trailers on Youtube have piqued my interest. The original was very ahead of it's time in many ways. If anyone has seen it yet, feel free to offer a quick review.

OK so I'm a bubble burster. First of all, Merry Christmas.

But this movie is so ridden with cliches it's insulting. By the end, if you haven't seen everything coming you probably haven't seen a sci-fi action film in the last 20 years.

The film isn't terrible; the visuals can be quite amazing especially in the beginning. But the 3-D isn't spectacular, and there are scenes and sequences that seem taken right from other movies (the disc fighting has "The Matrix" written all over it, like a lot of other action films lately; there's a cycle sequence that's literally right out of "The Dark Knight" and even the accompanying music is almost identical).

There's just nothing exciting or fun about this movie. If it at least had fun with its cliched plot and plot devices, then maybe it'd be entertaining. Without Jeff Bridges invoking The Dude a few times, the movie would be a total bore. And seeing this in 2-D is absolutely the same experience, I promise you.

The original "Tron" was perhaps formulaic but at least innovative and there was something unique about it. There's nothing unique in this film. It plods along with quiet sequences involving the most hackneyed dialog that's stolen from Sci-Fi made for TV movies. And why they drink Arctic Mint Listerine, I have no idea. I don't even know what these "programs" do in their world; but I guess at least they all have minty fresh breath.

So while the first twenty minutes are somewhat promising and some of the visuals are impressive; the film doesn't have fun with itself and therefore neither did I. My alternate title for this movie is "Tron: Recycled".

:D :D out of :D :D :D :D

W_Z,
Good review. I saw it and thought it was very entertaining, but the lack of any vivid color (looks like it was filmed in a gray mist) and NO 3D AT ALL knocked it down a notch. I might give it one more star then you did. Olivia Wilde is nice to look at but she is zipped up in a vinyl jumpsuit the whole movie.

im not a tron geek or anything, but when this movie surfaced i wanted to rent the original for my 9-year-old, but cant find it anywhere, including netflix. i wonder what the deal is with that? considering some of the shit out there, id think tron would at least be available.
