"Before they were photographed together in 1862, Lincoln wryly noted this general “should have no problem” sitting still for it"

Did you know the answer?

Not quite. The question is about a general.

Good. Lincoln was mocking McClellan for doing nothing.

None of the contestants got it right.

Lincoln burned him with the "if you don't plan to use the Army, can I borrow it for a while?"

Lincoln knew early on how the war was going to be won.

My favorite McClellan story was when he and his troops came to a river and McClellan pulled up his horse and said to Custer, "I wonder how deep this river is." Custer rode his horse right out into the middle and said, "This deep, sir."

The best part of yesterday's episode was the contestant who guessed Chaka Khan when the answer was Shaka Zulu.

5-7 Final Jeopardy Answer

Communist Manifesto. Yes.

Didn't see the show when it was originally broadcast.

What about it? It exists.

Q: It's second line is “All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: Pope & Czar, Metternich & Guizot…”

This was the question for the all-time champs. They got it right.

Oh, they're replaying the GOAT series? Awesome.

Forgot that was on there, those were bloodbaths, that's like a normal FJ. You should be able to hit it with ease off "this spectre" and "Europe."

Seriously? Wow. I mean that's like a fastball down the middle. Have the questions in final jeopardy been dumbed down that much? I haven't watched in years.

You are correct but next time phrase it as a question.

I thought I read they did some episodes with no audience. But I haven't seen anything like that aired.

Maybe, but given Alex's health I'd think he would be in a bunker somewhere rather than dealing with contestants and staff - even at a distance.

This has sparked an idea with me, I'm starting the process of sending out invoices to buyers of my beef cattle, and they are beginning to pick up the meat at the butcher shop. I have usually given my address to mail checks or ways to drop them off in person, and have recently added taking electronic payments on PayPal or Venmo. Now I need to work something in there about going down to the Bank and asking Old Man Potter to send a bank draft telegram to my account at the Building and Loan!

No doubt, but I think they might have done the no audience thing before most of the country lost their collective minds. Like when talk shows like colbert filmed for about a week in their studio without an audience, but those type of arrangements did not last very long.

I know they talked about shooting shows with no audience, but I think they may have just cancelled production altogether before it came to that.

You can't have Jeopardy without the pity laughs from the audience from the incredibly unfunny stories told by the contestants about how they did a home version of Jeopardy and they wore a mustache or in college they answered an exam question with "What is a geode"?

The guy in the middle today forces Final Jeopardy by answering the last question in Double correctly, which gave him exactly half of the lady's today on the right. Then he wins Final by answering "The Articles of Confederation" correctly, when the lady guessed wrongly with "The Bill of Rights". She had to wager something, which caused her to lose.

Pretty incredible.

Final Jeopardy Category 5-26: 20th Century Metaphors

Final Question: "If it had physically existed, it would have stretched some 500 miles from the Baltic Sea to the Adriatic Sea"

This one got me. I was trying to think of a connection to the seas mentioned in the question or something maritime and couldn't come up with anything as a metaphor.

Good and tricky question.

Would she have lost a tiebreaker if she bet zero?

I haven't watched the show since my mom passed almost four years ago, she watched frequently so it would be in before dinner. I saw the thread had been updated and was concerned that Alex may have taken a turn for the worse.

I think if there is a tie, both contestants return. I seem to recall reading that one of the most hated multiple-day champions used to actually try for a tie, thinking that he was more likely to succeed against one "fresh" opponent and one he thought was inferior, vs. two fresh opponents.
