That was very well done.

Best comedian of all time.

But he's more than that. He's just a bright guy. Always has the right words for social issues.

He's great.

It really was.

The thing I admire about him is that it's not like he had too much time to prepare for those 27 minutes of talk. But he did it flawlessly. Public speaking is not easy. He makes it look easy.

One thing to prepare a comedy set for weeks or months. Which is what they all do. That's still tough to pull it off before an audience. But it wasn't about a set here. He was just speaking from the heart. With a couple of jokes. Cuz he's still Chappelle.

I also loved how he called out CNN's Don Lemon, who've I've always hated. Good for Chappelle to call out that bitch.

That hit on so many levels. Including a few intensely personal.

Like Beardown said, he just has a gift for this stuff that goes beyond stand up comedy.

It's like until I got to a certain level of experience, I couldn't appreciate the breadth and depth of a lot of Richard Pryor's darker sets.

You never seem to. You never seem to try. And you seem aggressively comfortable with that.
Or just simply watch the video.

Are we at an impasse? I think when I've shared thoughts you deem them invalid.

I watched the video.

Talking about his dad calling for his grandfather who was born a slave, had to be among them.

Couldn’t feel it like you obviously but I was more emotional than I thought listening to it. The anger and despair is palpable without it coming across as lecturing, imo. Small part of his genius as a performer.

As soon as he said “this man kneeled on a man’s neck, for EIGHT MINUTES, and FOURTY SIX SECONDS” I was like oh shit, he’s gonna say something here

Growing up seeing pictures of family members one generation removed from being slaves doesn't help either, especially when he mentioned similar feelings.

Listening to it again, the one great laugh I got both times, was “I read the manifesto, he likes me, is there anything I can do for YOU n****, cuz I’d be very worried!”

Gonna be a nice time to revisit his Netflix stuff and his earlier stuff on YouTube tonight, even though it’s obviously vastly different material. I just can’t describe how much respect I have for Dave and how he sees things and describes things he sees. Carlin is the only one who’s come close in my life. I’m a bit too young to fully appreciate Pryor. Eddie was a tornado but never had this depth.

My grandfather absolutely hated many people because of the treatment he got in Alabama as a young man. He had to come to Chicago to avoid being lynched by a group led by a deputy sheriff. He made sure that I never heard that until after he died.

He didn't want to transfer his anger and bitterness.

That’s what I love about him. You and I have completely different backgrounds and experiences. Dave draws on all of that to bring everyone in. He’s really just a master story teller and his interest in history has really become apparent the last several years and just put him on a different level as a comic and storyteller.

That's when you realize that the notion of One Love has more merit than most have given it.

The part about 8:46 also being his time of birth, uhhh...OK? I guess that's a weird coincidence. I dont know how the two things are really related or how its supposed to be some incredible collision events that makes me gasp in shock. Or 8/24 being his birthday and Kobe's numbers. Our friend Dave may need to lay off the weed a little bit.

Speaking of Kobe, the whole way he tries to use Kobe's last game as a way to make him get over the Dallas massacre is bizarre. I dont get it, I mean I do get it that he's using other things to cope with hard realities but I dont get how it squares with the rest of his dialogue. You cant preach to us the sanctity of human life for twenty-five minutes and then immediately turn around and say "I know those nine cops died, but at least Kobe scored sixty in his last game!". If he's got that kind of contempt for police officers that he cant even summon sympathy for their deaths then he should understand as well as anyone why cops have such little sympathy for criminals.

He's so outraged at the callousness and indifference of police officers but the close out his monologue he exposes the exact same mentality with the juxtaposition of Kobe's Laker farewell and the Dallas massacre.

Its really weak. But I dont think he scripted to the be that way, he's one of the few public figures I trust. Its just bad, emotional thoughts.

It's also not factual: Kobe's game was in April while the shooting took place during that summer.

Plus Laura Ingram made that "shut up and dribble" comment after that game. It was still a very powerful and moving set.
