You won’t find the classic Charlie Brown holiday specials on broadcast television this year.

The Peanuts animated classics, including “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” will stream on AppleTV+ through a deal with WildBrain, Peanuts Worldwide and Lee Mendelson Film Productions, making Apple “the home for all things Peanuts,” according to a news release.

“A Charlie Brown Christmas” and “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” are also included.

The holiday specials have aired annually on broadcast television since the 1960s.

Worry not, though. Families can still watch the holiday specials for free during limited windows around each holiday, Apple said.

“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” Halloween special will be available for free on the Apple TV+ service from Oct. 30 until Nov. 1.

“A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” will be available for free from Nov. 25 until Nov. 27 on the platform, and “A Charlie Brown Christmas” will be available to customers for free from Dec. 11 until Dec. 13.

Linus spends a whole night in a pumpkin patch while Charlie Brown collects rocks from spiteful neighbors, Charlie Brown & his dog serve friends popcorn, toast and sundaes for Thanksgiving, and the students are left to fend for themselves in developing a Christmas play. They're lucky the admittedly depressed Charlie Brown didn't come back from the tree farm with an AK-47.

NEW YORK — The “Great Pumpkin” never showed on broadcast television this year, but after a deal with PBS, the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and Christmas specials will return to the air.

Last month, Apple TV+ became the new home to the beloved Peanuts holiday specials. That sparked an outcry from viewers who were accustomed to annually tuning in on network TV. Apple offered each special to stream for free for a handful of days, but that didn’t stop online petitions from gathering hundreds of thousands of signatures.

On Wednesday, Apple bowed to the backlash, announcing it had teamed up with PBS for ad-free broadcasts of “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” (on Nov. 22) and “A Charlie Brown Christmas” (on Dec. 13).

Both specials will also be available for free during three-day windows on Apple TV+ (Nov. 25-27 for “Thanksgiving” and Dec. 11-13 for “Christmas.”) For subscribers, the specials will be available beginning Nov. 18 and Dec. 4, respectively.

The crisis consists precisely in the fact that the old is dying and the new cannot be born; in this interregnum a great variety of morbid symptoms appear.
